There is a book on the Melungeons. They had blond hair and blue eyes. Some say they are the decedents of Virginia Dare or Norris men. Check on Amazon for the book. There were Mandarin Indians who were blonde/blue eyed, lived in Northern KY/Southern Indiana, moved to Missouri, helped the Lewis and Clark expedition in the Dakotas, I believe. Wiped out by measles, or something like that. Believed to have descended from Prince Madoc of Wales, who came before Columbus - several expeditions up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, wrote about the expeditions back in Wales, where his writings have been located. Are you sure you aren't confusing Mandarins with Melungeons, Mark? Marilyn ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
There was a large settlement of Melungeons in eastern KY, the area of Pike, Johnson and Magoffin Counties. Still lots of there descendants there today. ----- Original Message ----- From: <MarilynRuth51@aol.com> To: <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2007 9:18 PM Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] native americans in western Maryland > > In a message dated 6/28/2007 7:56:34 P.M.
