Was there a tavern in LaVale called The Six Mile House? A senior friend states "Gehauf's Restaurant is located in LaVale across the road (Rt 40) from where the Six Mile House used to be." It sounds as though this was a separate place from The Toll House. I remember a custard stand being in that location and then a gas station, then Burger King. I remember Mother mentioning "The Six Mile House" like it was a tavern/restaurant, but I never knew where it was. Anyone know about it? Thanks, ~ Chere

The Six Mile House was across the road from the Braddock hotel which must have been owned by the Gehauf's at one time...or else they just ran the restaurant. The Six Mile House was just west of what is now Athey's Gas Station. I loved looking at that house everytime we went to Cumberland from Frostburg. Then I moved away and was gone for at least 10 years before I returned to Allegany Co. and got really mad when I saw the Six Mile House was gone.
