It surprised me that there was only one sponsor and that it was a woman. A sponsor at baptism is one who would see to the religious upbringing of the child should the parents be unable to do so. It has been my experience that the child usually carried the name of a saint and also the name of the sponsor. With the length of time between birth and baptism, I would guess that Sarah Ann McKinzie was a relative perhaps visiting from elsewhere. Have you inquired as to other records for Solomon Jacob - like Confirmation, Marriage etc.? How about other children born to this couple?
