Connie, In the 1860 census, George H & Barbara Brant are living with George's parents Frederick & Mary in Cumberland Valley, Bedford Co PA. They were enumerated on July 7th, 1860. What is clear is that the Miss Brotemarkle who married George H used the name Barbara. In 1850, she is also listed as Barbara, living with her parents Michael and Susana in Allegany County. The date differences are easy to explain. What is recorded in the marriage records is the date of the marriage license. The name difference is open to lots of speculation, including difficulty reading the original records to the possibility that Barbara's legal name was actually Margaret. Hopefully this helps, Carol -------------- Original message -------------- From: connielark@comcast.net > Seeking help on a Brotemarkle/Brant connection. Oh boy, this is a long shot... I had relatives who lived in Grahamtown that I remember when I was a little girl. She, Marie, was a pretty woman with short black hair, used to visit us in Knapps Meadow and we'd visit them. This would have been in the 1950's. She lived with another woman, I can't recall if it was her mother, sister or what. They lived in a brown and yellow house going towards Frostburg, it was on the right side, about 3 or 4 before the sharp turn to the left and the turn to the right to go to The Maplehurst. I believe she was my mother (Ruth McFarlane Thrasher)'s cousin on the McFarlane side but her last name was not McFarlane. Wish my brain was working better. Anyone from Grahamtown that remembers them? I may be able to find some living cousins from the McFarlane side if I could nail down the name.
