    1. [MDALLEGA] Brant of Cumberland Valley Twp
    2. I'm not sure how this figures into Connie's query, but I'll toss it in there in case it's of any use. I remembered running across this newspaper mention from 1868--I'm guessing it's the same family. Maybe not. As run in the Bedford Inquirer for June 5, 1868. "Notice of Inquisition. Henry Brant, late of Cumberland Valley Twp, leaving widow Rebecca (since deceased), and seven children, to wit: George of Allegany Co., MD; Jacob; John (deceased, leaving issue); Andrew Jackson of Cumberland Valley Twp.; Catherine, wife of George Leasure of Cumberland, MD; and Rebecca, deceased." Only 6, not 7, children are actually listed. And the older couple were a Henry & Rebecca. So, I'm not sure this relates to Frederick and Mary's son George. Was Henry a brother to Frederick? This Henry was dead prior to 1850, and had baptized a child at the Old Log Church in Schellsburg as early as the 1810s. His widow Rebecca advertised the following notice from the Bedford Gazette of February 22, 1850: "Real Estate. 260 acres adjoining John Hendrickson & Moses Hardinger in Cumberland Valley, late the property of Henry Brant, dec'd. Rebecca Brant." To make things even more confusing, this marriage notice ran in the Gazette on June 20, 1845: "Married--on Thursday, the 22nd ult., Henry Brant to Rebecca Work, both of Harrison Twp." Clearly, this isn't the Henry Brant that baptized a child 30 years prior, nor is it likely the the Henry Brant whose estate was being dickered over in 1868. I have no particular interest in the Brant line, but remembered some newspaper gleanings concerning them. Hope they can be of use. Additionally, the following wills were probated in Bedford Co.: Frederick Brant, 1866 (Bk 4, p. 504); Henry Brant, 1848 (Bk 3, p. 413); and William Brant, Sr., 1892 (Bk 7, p. 151). There are also extensive Orphans Court files for Frederick, George, Henry, and William Brant in Bedford Co., outlining particular estate details and disputes.
