    3. While we're on Lutheran churches and wedding records, I will repeat a question I think I tried a few years ago. Is anyone aware of what Lutheran churches would have been in Cumberland in 1866? I am trying to find out about the marriage of my great grandmother's parents or step parents who were married January 1, 1866. They are in the record book in the courthouse with only their names. His last name was Hueschkel or Heuschkel and hers was Spencer. Years later Mary Elizabeth Spencer wrote in a civil war pension application that the marriage was done by a Lutheran minister named Schwankovsky. There is an affidavit in the pension file from Schwankovsky verifying this but by the he was in Grand Rapids Michigan. So if the list can help me, is it known what church in Allegany county Schwankovsky was affiliated with? The record in the courthouse only gives the names of the couple and the date. 3. There ought to be a Lutheran library or some such that would have a bio on this minister. If so it should include all the churches in which he ministered. I would go to a local Lutheran church and ask. The Cath. Ch. has a Cath directory maybe the Lutheran's do too. 3. Art- I Googled "Lutheran Minister Schwankovsky" and got several hits like the following. Perhaps if you google, you can connect with a Schwankovsky family member and find out a good deal. This may or may not be the Luthern Minister Schwankovsky you are looking for but the period of time is close. Sharon ************************************************ Family name: schwankovsky Last, First Galbraith, Ted E-Mail: teddybare@i2k.com Street: 149 Kimberly Dr City, State: Prudenville Mi Country: USA Date: 1999-10-25 Family Website: Additional Family Information: Looking for information on Conrad Schwankovsky, a Lutheran Minister in the mid 1800"s. Served in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan areas. ****************************************** History of Butler Co., PA 1895 St. Peter's Evangelical Union Church was formally organized in 1849, as "The Evansburg Lutheran and Reformed Church," by Rev. Herman MUNTZ, but the union did not last long. A contract between the members of the Reformed and Lutheran churches of Evans City, was signed April 25, 1853. The record is written in German. This contract was in force until August 2, of that year, when the bodies divided, Mr. MUNTZ organizing "St. Peter's German Luth- [p. 425] eran Church," and taking fifteen families with him, who held the original building of 1850. The pastors since Mr. MUNTZ's time have been Revs. C. SCHWANKOVSKY, 1854, K. W. BRECHT, 1855; C. WALTBURGER, 1858; E. F. WINTER, 1863; Casper SCHEEL, 1880 and the present pastor, Rev. Henry VOEGLE, who came in 1890. The church was chartered January 15, 1872, on petition of Rev. E. F. WINTER, Jacob STROUP, William GOEHRING, Zeno MARKEL, Peter BURR and other members of the society.
