I find only one person listed in the local telephone book by this last name. There wasn't any address listed. I got up my courage to call the number only to find the phone answered by an older woman who was confused by my call. I would much rather write and then call especially when making these out of the blue type calls. I looked to the Cumberland newspapers available online via ancestry and for the time period found only a couple of things. One was a marriage in 1909 of a William STEPPE to a May FREELAND. I would hope that the many brothers in this family would have also married and the name had continued their lineage. I believe too that there was a local friar who was also a STEPPE a James STEPPE connected with SS Peter and Paul Cath Ch. there. I'm writing this to the list in the hopes that additional information will generate more replies - Thanks so much Karen -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of pat hook Sent: Friday, March 16, 2007 10:57 AM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Street naming/renaming question CumberlandTwigg/SteppeConnection Karen, There is a Maryland Avenue. Glenwood St. is a block away from the 900 block of Maryland Ave. It runs parallel with MD. Ave. in that 900 block. Glenwood St. is just one block long now. It may have been a longer street at one time. I have always known it as Maryland Ave. not Street. Also, there was a William Steppe that went to Fort Hill H.S. in the 1950's. Graduated in ca 1954 and lived on Kent Ave. Hope this is of some help to you...
