Ancestry.com puts free military records online Thursday, May 24, 2007 By Torsten Ove, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Starting today, one of the country's largest online genealogical databases will offer free access to its vast collection of military records, some pre-dating the Revolutionary War. Ancestry.com will unveil some 90 million war records, such as draft cards and muster rolls, from the 1600s through the Vietnam War. The records will be available for free from today [May 24th] through June 6, D-Day in 1944, as part of a promotion tied to Memorial Day. After that, the company will start charging for access.
