    3. Jocelyn~ Question: who accepts the tax for their income tax each year? We had thought of this several years ago but were told (even though the interest rate was and is low) there would still be earnings on the account, even if it was checking. Therefore, the bank had to have the name of some family member who was would accept it to pay taxes on it! No one was willing so other methods for a working capitol for the reunions was worked out. I assume that since yours is almost a century old, it must be substantial. How did you handle the taxation question?? We always take up a collection and that goes toward the expenses. Many years ago the Reunion Committee opened a bank account. The money is kept there from year to year. We have a President, a Secretary -Treasurer, and a Vice-President [who will be next year's president]. Each year a new vice-president is elected. Committees take care of making lemonade, games for the children, table covers, ice cream for supper, etc. We have dinner between 12 and 1:00 pm and supper, at 5:00 pm, is ice cream and home made cake. We bring our own table service - silver, napkins, plates, etc. We bring items to be auctioned and this money goes in the bank account too. These items include plants and flowers, needlework, cakes, etc., etc., what ever people want to donate. For the 90th reunion my husband's cousin and I borrowed $100.00 from the reunion fund to pay for the printing of a family book. It included the family genealogy [we attempted to find all the descendants of the immigrant ancestors and their history in The Netherlands, back to 1713]. Also, Ruth had gathered family stories for years and we included those. We sold it for $10.00 and sold 100 of them. The next year we had 25 more done and sold them too. The profit from those sales went into the reunion fund. Another year some of the cousins did a cook book. Just a few ideas............. 3. Mary Ellen- Not all checking accounts pay interest - you get a checking account that doesn't and no one assumes responsibility for the tax that isn't paid. It is wise to have a checking account that requires two (2) signatures per check. Sharon

    3. Sharon's advice re: check signatures is spot on. It applies to ALL non-profit entities. When you read of pilfering, stealing etc in non-profit situations it is usually because proper safeguards (like 2 signatures) aren't followed.
