I would not assume either is accurate until you have further documentation. Census info is also notoriously unreliable, and was often not provided by the person in question. A marriage record for William and Catherine/Dorcas would be helpful--the information was more likely to be provided by the parties themselves. Deeds, too, are often good places to find names......
