    3. Louann, I create folders in my Yahoo mail account--you can label the folders any way you want--surnames, location, document types etc. When I get an email with information I want to keep, I just hit the 'move' button at the top of the email, pick the folder I want it to go to and voila! it is saved--not on my computer but on Yahoo's server. Saves space, time etc. Jim Ann Davis <anndavis@roadrunner.com> wrote: Louann, I don't like to use the archives to find something I know I'll want to see again. Takes too long to find things there. In my notebook, I'm pretty particular about what I print. It has to be from a contact I don't want to loose or info that has some actual fact to it that pertains to my line. You're right, it's easy to get buried in paper. I have notebooks for all my surnames that have enough paperwork for. And I try to file regularly but I'm way behind right now....new grandson. ----- Original Message ----- From: "louann creasy" To: Sent: Monday, July 02, 2007 6:17 PM Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Organizing emails > Thanks Ann and Pat, > I do print the ones that I am sure pertain to the relative I am > researching > at the moment. 3. Louann, I use Google's GMail. Within it, you can assign different labels to the same email message. It works similarly to Yahoo as Jim Woods described but the difference is that one isn't limited to filing an email in just one location (folder). With the multiple labels, you can search for the email in multiple ways. For example, say there is an email that mentions one of my ancestors with the surname Johnson who lived in Finzel and it also mentions Garrett county. I can add labels "Johnson", "Finzel", and "Garrett County" to that email. Then, whenever I search on "Johnson", the email is part of the result set. Whenever, I search on "Finzel", the same email is part of the result set. Same thing for "Garrett County" searches. One email that shows up in several different search patterns--very nice, in my opinion. Plus, like Yahoo, the email is actually saved on Google's server rather than on my local PC. That way it is available to me wherever I can get internet access. Still, I can print a copy or save a copy as necessary. Robert

    3. Gee Whiz, if I had known that the question would cause such an uproar, I wouldn't have posted it...Yes, I would. he, he. But seriously, I feel that this is what this forum is for, to get different thoughts on different subjects that are all related to genealogy. I know for a newbie to genealogy like myself, I am open to everyone's suggestions on how to do things. You never know, someone may have a way of doing something that works for you too. I sometimes get annoyed at the many emails that come thru also, but they are interesting to read, and if I don't think I need them, I just delete them. I don't know of any way around it at this point, but like I said I have enjoyed reading them and this group has been so helpful to me, I am glad to be a part of it. So, enough said, and thanks to all the great people that are a part of this group. This format seems to have reduced to the flame thrower emails. It is only a suggestion. (:-).
