In my early research for my Allegany Co. families, I found that some of the Kirkwood family had migrated from Nova Scotia to Allegany Co.,MD. I wondered why Nova Scotia first. I found info that stated it was cheaper to emmigrate from Scotland to Nova Scotia than to American ports. just an fyi - Ruth
