    1. [MDALLEGA] Rourke vs O'Rourke

    3. I have been reading CDs from St Mary of the Annunciation from Lonaconing and hope someone can help me clarify a name.. In my research I have a Peter O'Rourke married to Mary Ann Cavanaugh. In the church baptismal records his name is entered as Peter Rourke (no O). The 1900 U S census, has Mary Ann as a widow and the name is spelled O'Rourke. The priest was Fr O'Brien so he should have been familiar with the 'O'. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there an explanation and which is really correct. Pat Dailey

    3. I have found in the census that my great great uncle was listed in several places as Marcus O'Riley...he was really just plain Riley. Owen was his middle name and he listed himself as Marcus O. Riley...Maybe this gentlemen's name was mistaken for O'Rouke because he had an O. listed as his middle initial.
