Maryland required marriage licenses be obtained from the clerk of the county court beginning in 1777. However, banns published three Sundays in the county newspaper where the bride resided could be substituted for a license. Quakers could marry without a license. The archives does have the county record books, but only on microfilm. And of course if they used banns instead of a license there will be no record. The records may also have been affected by the courthouse fire in 1893. I'll note the information down for the next time I'm at the archives in Annapolis, but it may be a few months before I get back there. Although we're only one county south the kids always have sports and scouts going on weekends this time of year. Did they record marriages license back then. I think the person got married in Allegany or Frederick County. Any assistance would be appreciated. **************Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. Get the Radio Toolbar!
