I am wondering if someone in the Cumberland area could assist me with a problem that I have discovered. Several years back I copied the Crow/e marriage records up to June of 1922. I noticed reading the obit for Jacob Cephas Crowe that Genie Ragan has posted on Our Brick Walls does not seem to match the marriage records. As noted below James Cephas was married to Eveline Stevey, but in Jacob Cephas's obit it states he married Eveline. The 1881 marriage notes Cephas Crow married Merrietta Wilson - Jacob Cephas obit indicates his first wife was Etta Wilson which I presume matches. 1881 9/15 Cephas Crow Allegany County Merrietta Wilson Allegany County Allegany County Rev. Crowe, 81, died Monday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Elsie Hume, Pittsburgh. Mr. Crowe, who until recently was a resident of Frostburg and Borden Shaft, was born in Garrett county March 15, 1859. He was the husband of the late Sarah Etta Wilson and Evelyn Stevey Crowe, both preceding him in death. If possible could someone if they have the time check the marriage books at the Courthouse to verify that I copied the information correctly for these two marriage dates and names.
