    3. Good Morning DES No you are NOT subject to copyright infringement for your tree. "Owning" was probably not the best term to use. Ancestry does not own your tree. When you post a 'public' tree to Ancestry you are giving them rights to your tree to display and use the info for their use (adding to World Tree etc.). You can also elect to keep your tree Private so no one can see it without contacting you first, directly or through Ancestry. There are options you can select when you post your tree. Your tree is your tree. You just waive your copyright protection if you post it as a Public tree. My own problem started because I didn't mind them adding my info to Rootsweb, but didn't realize I would need a password to get inside for corrections or additions. They started the World Connect program so the info in the Ancestry trees would be available to people for free on Rootsweb, not just those who subscribe to Ancestry. People forget about all the FREE things provided by Ancestry (this list, all of Rootsweb data and all the free space for personal sites etc). I hear lots of complaints because they are charging you for information that is free, BUT an airplane ticket alone, from Calif to MD to do research and get the free data would cost double what the price of Ancestry costs. For me, it's well worth the price and I praise them for the work they do. My question is, do I still own my information? If I set up a web site and offer the file (which Ancestry has) for free, am I open to copy right infringement from Ancestry? DES
