    3. Call me crazy but Ancestry "owning" my info does not bother me.  I'm just glad others have a medium by which to find or get a jump start on their roots; it's how I got started. I do feel badly that some are not able to make corrections in their merged material.  That is irresponsible of Ancestry. --- On Sun, 6/14/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] MDALLEGA Digest, Vol 4, Issue 154 To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, June 14, 2009, 4:27 PM Fyi all of the info you post on ancestry and like sites becomes their info.  They essentially own it. They try to protect the info for people who are living but other than that they can do with it as they wish. -----Original Message----- From: "GENIE RAGAN" <[email protected]> Date: Sun, 14 Jun 2009 13:25:27 To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] MDALLEGA Digest, Vol 4, Issue 154 Another good point!  I too have seen where the World Tree has combined trees with those on Ancestry, that should not be combined.  Another good reason to check what's there before copying the data.  AND I have a tree on RootsWeb that I guess got transferred from Ancestry, and I have no password or access to it to make changes!  It's my tree, but I cannot get to it!  Go figger! Maybe the secret is to NOT post our trees at all anywhere.  I don't know, but it gets frustrating.  And how do you make things right? The one case I mentioned previously was different though, it was a newbie just anxious to add as many names to their tree as fast as possible.  She just didn't think there were two DIFFERENT John Wilhelms living in MD, so it had to be hers. They have them on a tree as being the parents of our original   ancestor WHO WAS BORN 1737....can you beat that. 3. I will say this. Our file on world connect and ancestry is researched and maintained by a very good researcher. She posts the verification along with the person's individual listings. If she has info that has come to her and is not verified she make sure it is posted that she can not verify it. She also posts that if anyone has info on her site that is incomplete etc please let her know and she will correct and add. To me that is the type of files that should be allowed. Those verified and the person willing to make corrections for you....

    3. I have been trying to follow all of this, but I may have missed a memo. My question is, do I still own my information? If I set up a web site and offer the file (which Ancestry has) for free, am I open to copy right infringement from Ancestry?
