Thanks Mary Ellen, I have gotten some military info. from ancestry and alot from footnote.com on his military service, enlistment papers, muster rolls, etc. but nothing that lists his parents and i didnt come across and his wife died before he did so there wasnt a widow pension on file. I think I have covered all the databases that are out there even the ones that I got rooked into paying for (not ancestry or footnote i love those they have alot of information)....that's why I'm trying now to reach out on the web hoping to run into an ancestor that might now... By the way...my son lives in Lakewood! We live about 45 minutes East of him not in Cuyahoga though but on the line of Trumbull/geauga County. Thanks again! The applications for pension from Union Army veteran usually have a reat deal of data. These can be obtained via the National Archives and ncestry.com may have them. I know Ancestry had an index at one time. Can't heck today for you but will try over the next few days. You seemed to have covered all the bases. I just had one other thought, I found a reference to a relative of mine in the newspaper item when he was sent to a home like this. You evidently have to go through channels to get in and that required some govt. business. Anyway, the item mentioned his going and who was involved in getting him in. If you know where your relative was at the time before his admittance, you might stumble across a mention in a column from this place in a major newspaper of the area. I know genealogical research isn't cheap. When nothing is found and money is spent it is doubly disappointing. That is why the kindness of strangers is so welcome. This list is a good one for responding with "food for thought." Lisa!! There seems to be numerous, now, Ohioans (SP?) with MD, western MD origins. He could have applied for a pension for himself. I have not seen the in depth Pension application on Ancestry that we have a copy. I would check with the National Archives in DC. They might have something.
