Priscilla, I tried looking for the newspaper you inquired about and could not get it to come up using any of those words. Sorry. If you can give any more info, I will be happy to try again. It sounds like something we would all like to see.
Are we sure the year is 1854?? I ask because I am not aware there was a military draft in 1854. Could this be 1864, referring to the Army of the Potomic and military draft and operations? Just a thought. Yes, Karen, I received! It is the page I wanted. In the fifth column over is the list of districts and the men who's names were drawn for the draft. By my count, there are 170 names listed. Ruth, you are right. Now I'm thinking that what looks like a 12 is actually a 13 and what looks like 1854 is actually 1864. That works out to be a Wednesday. So, the date is probably July 13, 1864. I no longer subscribe to NewspaperArchives, but I recall that they had the July 12, 1854 issue of The Alleganian. Ancestry doesn't not have this particular year. The page I'm wanting says: The Alleganian. CUMBERLAND, MARYLAND Wednesday Morning, July 12, 1854 THE WEEK'S NEWS. Military Operations. From the Army of the Potomac. The latest intelligence ... There are many, many names listed as being drawn for the draft. Is it possible for someone to send an entire page to me? If so, I will provide my email address. Thanks, Priscilla

Hi everybody, I just had a really nice (principally bike-riding) visit in Cumberland and had a great time. I saw a poster called Bird's Eye View of Cumberland 1873 (I think that's the right year) at my bed and breakfast which included an illustration of my 2X and 1X great-grandfather's business, A. L. Withers & Son (a tannery). It was a much bigger business than I expected and I was really thrilled to see a picture of it. Does anybody know where to get a copy? It says Duncan Photo, LaVale, MD down in the bottom left hand corner, so I'm sure it was a reissue of some sort. I haven't been posting on the list for a while, but I keep looking to see what everybody else is doing . . . Happy hunting everyone, and if anybody can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Susan Researching Withers and Smouse in Cumberland

Shawn~ Just put our Irish group on I90 to Niagra Falls, Canadian side. Had a marvelous time. Sunday, we did a large family gathering. First time ever, the descendendants of the siblings who emigrated, met on American soil. A few could not make it - St. Louis, MO, Dillian MT, and Chicago, IL. Health issues for the ones of my parents generation. It was great. Last night, before they left, our children took the son of my cousin Martin to their favorite haunts in the Cleveland Westside Irish community. This next generation has a great bond since they met in Ireland several years ago. Please send your article, can't wait to read it!
