Anyone have any information on Jeremiah Augustine, b. 1841 Addison, Somerset Co. Pennsylvania...married Harrriet Duckworth. Jeremiah died in 1922 in the National Soldiers Home in Dayton, OH. He is my g.g grandfather and trying to find his parents. Thanks
Is there some way we could donate to the Genealogical Society to help expedite the decontamination. I am sure others would also help to restore this valuable resource. Happy New Year to all. He could be a Civil War veteran; therefore, he or wife may have applied for a pension. The applications for pension from Union Army veteran usually have a great deal of data. These can be obtained via the National Archives and Ancestry.com may have them. I know Ancestry had an index at one time. Can't check today for you but will try over the next few days. Have you looked for the Soldiers' Home records. His admitting papers might tell you his parentage. Worth a try to find if you haven't looked there. Oh no, this is terrible news! Please keep us posted on the condition of the books as you further learn it. The society has a wonderful collection I've used many times. Happy New Year, I am curious if anyone can claim a Francis Twig in their pedigree. I have found him paying taxes in Pleasant Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in 1806. His record is on the same page as one John Perren, and Moses and Aaron Powell. Richard Perrin Day
Trying to get in contact with Sharon G. Bennett, or with anybody who may know what happened to her. It's been a few years since I heard from her, and she used to post pretty regularly on various boards, then she vanished. Not sure if she died or not. I hope not. I hope everybody had a nice Holiday Season! :-) Jerry
Hi Lois, This is what I see on Ancestry. Both occupations are "Grocer". John McMahon's children are Bridget, Thomas, Mary, James and Peter. Also, the first John's dwelling # is 313, the family # is 351. The second John, family's # is 352, but it's the same dwelling #, so they were living together. I'd guess they were extended family of the well known John Van Lear McMahon, the attorney is Cumberland. Happy New Year! Happy New Year everyone, Sometime ago (year or so) I downloaded a page from the 1850 census for BALTIMORE 6th ward. Dwelling 351 on that page of the census is John McMahon and his family. Can anyone decipher what his job was? It begins with a "G" but I cannot figure out what it is. Also the children are Bridget, Thomas,, Mary, ????? and Peter. Unknown child is a boy. Dwelling #353 is another John McMahon age 30 who has a job that also begins with a "G" but I am not sure it is the same as the the earlier John's job. This family eventually ended up in Allegheny County but I do not know where. Daughter Bridget is my great grandmother. Any help with these questions will get this new year off to a great start for me. Thank you, LoisZ.
Happy New Year Cousins! Please note that ANYONE who has ANY obits or articles of interest to the MD, PA., WV., VA. OH. (or wherever) areas, can email them directly to me for posting on OurBrickWalls.com. Just send to GenieRagan@msn.com<mailto:GenieRagan@msn.com> You can send transcriptions or scan and send the articles and I'll transcribe them or post as is, it makes no difference to me. I'm happy to post anything at all that you think may be connected to our families. The more posted, the more info out there. Funeral cards, obits, burials, birth/marriage/death notices, divorce, murders or big happenings (major fires/floods etc.) that occurred in the area are all welcome. This is our site, for our families and what happened to them. Don't be shy. Copyright and embarrassment to others are the only restrictions I have to posting something. So if I get an article that tells about one of ours being a convicted child predator, I probably won't post that, it would be hurtful to others. But if he got arrested for moonshining, or arrested for something else and found NOT GUILTY, well that's not so bad, and it will probably get posted. We've got real close to about 10k obits posted already, thanks to our wonderful transcribers/contributors and still have plenty of room left. Don't forget that if you want updates (weekly) on new articles and obits, to send me an email so I can add you to the list, and spread the word to your genealogy buddies/family. I know everyone doesn't have the time to check all the time to see "Whassup" and things do get posted mostly every day. With the updates, you can see if anything is of interest to you, without going to the site and wasting time. NOTE: the updates come from my personal email, not from an outside program, so you won't have your email address going anywhere else. The updates are sent BCC, so no one else sees who is getting the updates. You don't think about it, but, if everyone sent in just the two or four obits for their immediate family, we'd have all the area covered and all the info would be out there for everyone to have, for free. Here's wishing all of you a very happy, healthy and great New Year! Genie Editor by Default OurBrickWalls.com

Thank you for the info, Matt. I found this after I posted: Mrs. Duetta Gladys Winterstine, 57, wife of John H. Winterstine, of RD 1, Ridgeley, died this morning at Memorial Hospital following a year's illness. She was born August 20, 1902, a daughter of the late Theodore and Margaret Combs. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, John Leroy Winterstine, Orlando, Fla., and a daughter, Mrs. Millard McCarty, also of Orlando, and three grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. The Cumberland Evening Times, October 22, 1959
I had been in contact with the son Lynn concerning genealogy, but it was a one-way street. I gave information and he returned none. He knows more, but will not tell. Interestingly enough, he initiated the contact. Duetta is not the natural daughter of John Slidell Combs and Emma V. Seaber, as Emma passed in 1896. I believe John took her in and raised her as his own. Upon his untimely death in 1909, the children were dispersed. When my grandfather Frank B. Combs was able to, he got Duetta out of her situation and had her live with him and raised her. I believe her real father to be Joseph Combs, son of Philip Combs (Frank's brother). Joseph Combs left town and joined the Navy, while John Slidell Combs raised his daughter. >From Cumberland Times-News, November 29, 2010 John L. As his OTR trucking career grew, and his family too, they moved to Hagerstown, Md., where he worked for Rude of Martinsburg, W.Va.
