    2. Christine, Some info regarding Lonaconing, AKA Coney. Although it is a small town there are dozens of areas of the town known by other names. Jackson is the name of a street in Coney, as well as a mountain close by. There are areas called Scotch Hill, Big Vein Hill, Charlestown, Beechwood, Pink Row (where I lived growing up) and many more. All are part of Coney. There is a really good library downtown with a history room. I would assume you could find general info there. Allegany College (I'm not sure of the proper name these days) is located in Cumberland and has a great collection of genealogy records including the Allegany Co. Genealogy Library. Your folks might possibly be buried in the Old Coney Cemetery located in Knapps Meadow or Oak Hill Cemetery in Coney. There is also a Catholic Cemetery in Coney. I don't live in Coney and only go back every few years. You can contact me offline if you need more info. Regards, John Keyes Jonesboro, AR In a message dated 1/8/2011 10:08:32 P.M. I live in Pennsylvania and I'm new to Maryland research. I'm thinking of taking a trip to Lonaconing and starting to plan where I need to go. I'd like to find: 1) the marriage certificate for my direct ancestors Mary BALL (b. 1842) and James FURLONG who probably married in December 1860 2) the death certificate and burial for Edward Frederick BALL and his wife Mary BALL. They are both in the 1880 census but not in the 1900 - other than that, I don't know the date of death or place of burial. Dwelling 351 on that page of the census is John McMahon and his family. Can anyone decipher what his job was? It begins with a "G" but I cannot figure out what it is. Also the children are Bridget, Thomas,, Mary, ????? and Peter. Unknown child is a boy. Dwelling #353 is another John McMahon age 30 who has a job that also begins with a "G" but I am not sure it is the same as the the earlier John's job. This family eventually ended up in Allegheny County but I do not know where. Daughter Bridget is my great grandmother. Any help with these questions will get this new year off to a great start for me. Although, it does have that his next of kin was his sister "Carrie", which I'm assuming might be a Caroline? And I think he may have had a brother, William. I'm thinking that with the information I have been able to find on various websites and ancestry.com, there may have been a split in the parents or for some reason the children lived with relatives....not sure....but thank you for your reply.. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Hangsleben <phangsleben@att.net> To: mdallega <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Jan 5, 2011 9:10 am Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Jeremiah Augustine Have you looked for the Soldiers' Home records. 3. You seemed to have covered all the bases. I just had one other thought, I found a reference to a relative of mine in the newspaper item when he was sent to a home like this. You evidently have to go through channels to get in and that required some govt. business. Anyway, the item mentioned his going and who was involved in getting him in. If you know where your relative was at the time before his admittance, you might stumble across a mention in a column from this place in a major newspaper of the area. I know genealogical research isn't cheap. When nothing is found and money is spent it is doubly disappointing. That is why the kindness of strangers is so welcome. This list is a good one for responding with "food for thought."
