Terri, I'll send this on to the list and see what their answer is. I don't know about the 1840 census. I have the census from 1850 to 1920 on cd's but prior to 1850 there isn't much to learn from the census. I did check all of the census records but did the early ones at Allegany College here in Cumberland. Connie Connie, Do you know if the 1840 Allegany County census available on the internet? The Rootsweb page goes back to 1850. I haven't been able to find it with Google. Keep warm!!!! Terri
Sheryl My Morgans came over a little earlier than yours - but if you have some more info I can look through my collection of "stuff" and see if anything fits in. With Morgan being the second most popular name in Wales the research can be confusing. I would love to see what you have on Theo - I have two Theophilus Morgans - one my gg grandfather and the other my ggg grandfather. Theresa
I think I have found the death records of two members of my family. Where can I go to request obit look ups in Allegany county for the years 1919 and 1928? John W. Gordon October 12, 1919 and his wife Emily S. Gordon (Emily Susan) December 26, 1928. Karen Nelson Hangsleben
Only the L list Charley. I may try unsubbing for awhile Pat. I understand what you mean Jill, but it's hard to see your own address when it's list mail. Nancy....I wrote to the Rootsweb Help Desk last nite, haven't heard from them yet, but they'd have a LOT of lists to check. Thanks everyone for writing but please use my personal email add in the future. I'm getting a complex about taking up so much list space and time. anndavis@roadrunner.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "CHARLEY OFTEN" <charlie0@prodigy.net> To: <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 08, 2007 10:54 AM Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Fw: repeated messages > Are you enrolled on the D and also the L lists ? My Richard Morgan married Sarah Elway and had their first child Henry "Harry" Morgan (b. 1843) in Pillowell, Gloustershire, England before coming to Frostburg in 1870. This line of Morgans were miners in Carlos/Shaft area. Who has a match? Anyone? Anyone? --------------------------------- 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Find a flick in no time with theYahoo! JOe and all - go to www.mdmountainside.com and request tourist packet - I have done this and am planning a reunion for our John Hamilton - Mary Kirkwood descendants for summer 2007. You will receive a list of motels and summer activities. One place to consider is the park on top of Dans Mountain. My husband and I were in Allegany county a few years ago and at this park there are picnic areas and a swimming pool and loads of things - Also the last weekend in July is the Allegany Co. Fair - lol we attended one and admission was only one dollar per person - is not a LARGE county fair, compared to those here in northeastern Ohio, but was fun. Located in a "holler" and with the music playing and bouncing off the high cliffs, it was an experience. Have fun and good luck - Ruth Sprowls
Jeff stated: The Muir / Percy Family that I reference came to Allegany County around the 1840's. They owned / ran the coal mines around Lonaconing. They are connected to the Sloan family mentioned in Allegany history. They are buried in Percy Cemetery in Frostburg, Porter Cemetery in Eckhart and Vale Summit Methodist Cemetery JEFF - do you have info regarding this that you could send to me? My Hamilton - Allerdice - Kirkwood families came to the Lonaconing area between 1869 and 1871 - the Muir family was tied into one of these lines - and this may be a lead as to how/why the families came to Lonaconing to work in the mines. Grateful for any info - I think it was the Kirkwood family that was tied to the Muir name. Sicnerely, Ruth Sprowls Madison, Ohio (where it has been below zero with 2 ft. of snow for 2 weeks)
Jeff, I found this some years ago, and I believe this is how my Muir family may have recruited to Eckhart. I don't remember the Percy family being involved in coal mining in Lonaconing, although the Sloan family was involved in coal and banking. (quite a lot of hard feelings in Coney when the bank failed during the depression) Consolidated Coal Co. was the big name in coal mining in Coney at one time. I have no info Re: the Vale Summit Cemetery, do you know if any Muirs are buried there? Feldsteins "Coal Mining and Railroads of Allegany, MD." Page 5 has a reference to the Percy family and how they recruited friends from Scotland to come over and work in their coal mines. (James Percy (b 7 May 1800 d 22 Feb 1865) came to the US in 1829 from Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland. His brothers joined him later, Douglas in 1831 and David in 1835.) John Keyes

Thanks to all who wrote about my double email problem. I appreciate all your input but I think it's time we drop the subject. Unless you want to email me at my private email address: anndavis@roadrunner.com The discussion is taking up too much time and space on the list, and I apologize for that. Thanks everyone, Ann
Not a problem. My problem is with what I RECEIVE not what I send. Double copies of the same email delivered at the same time. Not the same as what you're referring to at all. This was posted on another RootsWeb list that I receive. Jocelyn in Ohio "Don't hit reply on this message because all messages now go directly to the list. "
Carol, I have only a vague reference to Thomas Walkinshaw. I have him as married to Jennet Muir (no relation to my Muir's that I can find) They had a child, Agnes, b. abt 1850 in Scotland. (my notes say she was a teacher) Agnes married John Willison b abt 1850 Ayrshire, Scotland. They married March 1874 in Eckhart. Children Nettie Martha May Desmond born 10 Jan 1886 d. 28 Sept 1959 May married John Muir son of Michael Muir, born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland. and Jennette Telford, b. Allegany Co., MD. This John ties into my Muir family. The Walkinshaw and Willison Families are being researched by Connie Beachy who is our list administrator. Perhaps Connie can add more to this. If you are interested in my Muir lines let me know. John Keyes Jonesboro, AR
Ann, Go to Roots Web help desk, and tell them your problem. It sounds like you might be subscribed twice. Nancy

Thats right Pat. I think some listers are thinking I'm sending double emails by accident, or sending a message twice or something. But I'm RECEIVING double messages from my Rootsweb lists, not sending. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Thompson" <Patty125@adelphia.net> To: <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 10:00 PM Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Repeated Messages > > > My double messages come in two at a time, each time, for the first time. >>From all my lists, which number about 20. > > --- > A lot of good information has been sent about how to remove text from > previous messages but I believe what the complaint is--instead of > receiving > one COPY of each posting to the Mailing List some Listers are receiving > the > same message twice. My double messages come in two at a time, each time, for the first time. >From all my lists, which number about 20. --- A lot of good information has been sent about how to remove text from previous messages but I believe what the complaint is--instead of receiving one COPY of each posting to the Mailing List some Listers are receiving the same message twice. In other words, some Listers are going to receive two copies of my post and both messages will be exactly alike. I don't have a solution to the problem but maybe someone does. I have not been experiencing this problem but I have in the past.

I'm looking for lot maps for Allegany and Garrett County from the Deakins' Survey to when Garrett County was formed. Allegany College has copies of the 1874 map of the lots after the resurvey. I looked at every map available but couldn't a copy of the Deakins maps. Would there be copies at the court house of any maps or maybe at Frostburg University? Doret
Joe, Looks like a Louis & Iva McKenzie living at 29 Bowery Street, Frostburg in the 1920 Census. It shows his age then as 42 and Iva as 28. A son (Ralph) and 2 daughters (Velma & Grace) also there. Iva's date of birth is 29 Nov 1891 and death was in 1982. I didn't see Louis or Samuel in a couple other Census records I looked through - could have missed something, tho...
