    1. [MDALLEGA] RE :Joe's reunion question
    2. carol vivier
    3. My family is going to have a reunion this summer. I need some ideas if anyone could share. We are going to have about 12 Children under 10 years and 10 kids between 10 and 15 years old. Anything will help. One of my nieces started a web site so we can all keep in touch. This site is easy to build easy to use and its free to start with. anyone else using this site. http://familylobby.com/ Joe Mckenzie Joe, My absolutely favorite site for obtaining "affordable" items for family gatherings is The Oriental Trading Co. I have ordered via the internet and the site is safe and I've had no problems with receiving my goods. The have many items for picnics games and small prizes. They will ship your items to another address besides your billing one. Many places will not. This has come in handy for me as I live on the west coast but ship my goodies to a friend in Frostburg and they are ready and waiting! Another nice place to hold a picnic is New Germany Park. There is a lake with life guards during the summer months. There is also a play area for the smaller ones. The teens might enjoy the lake area. I added some URLS for you. Have fun! 3. Yes there was a fire at the National Archives in Washington DC and almost NO state has a 1890 census. I'm sure 20 more replies will tell exactly how many states, and when, and who put the fire out. 2. depending where you have your reunion and when We have in the past hired playground leaders or students majoring in physical education. Another idea is to entice older family members ie teenagers to do games with the younger ones for a nominal fee. Badmiton/sack race/ egg toss/nature hunts. When you rent a pavilion or picnic tables ask how close to a playground they are if using a state park. Hope you have fun. One thing Do not put too much emphasis on organizing every minute. You will not be able to enjoy yourself or your relatives. You will find that the kids will enertain themselves much of the time. 3. Yes, Aunt Tish was my mother's sister. She married Eddie Conroy first but I think he died in a coal mine. Tish then married Thomas Conroy, who died in an auto accident. Is there any other information you want on this family? Connie > Connie, would you happen to have in your line an Eva Leticia Dando who > married an Eddie Conroy? 3. I don't know Elsie's maiden name, but I do know that The Barncords were related to a Knieriem family in Ridgeley, WV. So maybe her maiden name was Knieriem. Years ago there was a Stein Funeral Home in Cumberland, MD, Louis Stein was the owner. Don't know how far back they go in the area. I have tried to connect this Stein to George Washington Stein that I am trying to find. Barb -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Guerino Calemine Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 11:25 PM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Barncord, Andrews, Bealky, Knieriem, Stein Thanks everyone for the responses! According to my Family Treemaker program, I am the 1st cousin, 4 times removed, of Elsie Barncord -- although Barncord would not have been her married name but her original name. The Elsie Barncord I have in my tree was born 1895 and was the daughter of Henry O. Barncord. Would that be the same Elsie you're referring to? According to my research, the Barncords were originally the Bancords (and I've seen it spelled Bankard as well). Sometime between 1880 and 1900, the entire Cumberland family of Bancords seemed to have jointly decided that they'd henceforth be known as the Barncords -- so I'd like to find out why that happened. One of the Bancord patriarchs was Henry Bancord (1822-1869) -- who married Catherine Ann Gary (sometimes spelled Geary) (b.1831) in 1848. As for the STEIN name -- I'm researching the Cumberland family of Steins - Jacob (b.1834) and Elizabeth (b.1840) Stein who came over from Germany. Would like to find out more about that couple and where in Germany they were from (their kids were Pauline, Louis, Edward, Charles, and Elisa). Jacob and Elizabeth were my 4th Great-Grandparents. Not sure if any of their descendants or relatives ended up in Somerset County. jeff <jeff61@comcast.net> wrote: I know these families. They owned / ran the coal mines around Lonaconing. They are connected to the Sloan family mentioned in Allegany history. They are buried in Percy Cemetery in Frostburg, Porter Cemetery in Eckhart and Vale Summit Methodist Cemetery JEFF - do you have info regarding this that you could send to me? My Hamilton - Allerdice - Kirkwood families came to the Lonaconing area between 1869 and 1871 - the Muir family was tied into one of these lines - and this may be a lead as to how/why the families came to Lonaconing to work in the mines. Grateful for any info - I think it was the Kirkwood family that was tied to the Muir name. 3. My only interest in this John Willison ended when I found he didn't come to this country until ca. 1870. My Willisons of Flintstone have been in what is now Allegany County, since 1755. I think your John Willison's immigration documents are available at the Allegany Co. Circuit Court. I do have a slight connection with the Willison/Walkinshaw family as they had a daughter, Martha, who married Abraham Lewis, son of William Lewis who married Ann Price, daughter of Jane Williams and William Price. Ann Price was also a sister to Sarah Price Dando, my great grandmother. Connie

    3. Reply: The old obits can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mdallegh/cumbtime.htm However they only go from 1872 to 1916. You might find these obits at the Allegany County Genealogical Society offices but you'd really need lots of time because what books we have covering that period have no index's.
