Thanks Connie, Do you have an address for the Allegany County Nursing Home - they may be able to direct me to someone holding the old records if they took over the site. Can someone give me the location of this Infirmary? Did it have a specific purpose? One of my ancestor's died there, how would I go about getting records? Thanks. Pat

I have been trying to locate family in Cumberland from 1880 to hopefully the present and living descendants still there. I looked to the 1920 census and found a Mrs. Bertie Page listed. Her mother was still living at the time so I know I have the right family. I was puzzled by stepchildren living with Mrs. Page. Their surname was GTEN. What a strange name. Ancestry.com had listed a possible alternate spelling as GLAS. Well lo and behold GTEN/GLAS is actually GLENN. I found the family listed in the 1909 City Directory. Bertie/Birdie/Berdie was actually the widow of Joseph F. Glenn. Mr. Glen was a grocer and they resided at 287 Maryland Ave. I know this is the more correct spelling of the surname and that this is indeed the right family as living with them in 1909 were Mrs. Glenn's parents the John W. Gordon's'. Does anyone recognize Joseph F. Glenn as family? Could you tell me what Birdie/Bertie or Berdie might be short for? I thought perhaps Roberta for Bertie. This Bertie Gordon (b. @ 1882) must have been married at least three times - Glenn, Page and Trice. I'd welcome any help in sorting them out. Thanks, Karen Nelson Hangsleben

Hi Pat, http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/a/t/h/Chere-T-Athey/index.html I posted my Family Tree. Will you check it out and let me know if there are any additions, corrections or suggestions? My first time and I really don't know what I'm doing. Thanks, Chere
In the 1930 census, my grandfather, Harvey Wineland, is listed as being employed as a tire builder in a rubber factory. He and his wife, Ida May ( Burley ), were living on Buchanan Street, in Ellerslie, at the time, and I can't imagine where this factory might have been. When did the Kelly Springfield tire plant come into existence? Debbie Jobes in Eighty Four, PA www.genealogy.com/users/j/o/b/Debra-A-Jobes/

Phyllis, It was of interest to me to read "George's Creek Coal and Iron Company" because I have recently found a court paper naming George's Creek Coal and Iron Company vs. Philip H. Paugh and John Friend (my g, g, grandfather). For the George's Creek Coal and Iron Company I only see the names of "Walsh" Mch. (Merchant?) Hugh O'Neill; Petition - Act. "A" in regard to the Coal and Iron Company. The print is very faded and deciphering this 1853 document is difficult at best. The ship Tiberias, for instance, was chartered by the George's Creek Coal and Iron Company in 1838 to bring 300 miners and their families (and one lady!) from New Port, Wales, to Baltimore and then to Allegany County. A long lost cousin (lost her 50 years ago!) is helping me search the McFarlane side of our ancestry. We noticed quite a few of our ancestors immigrated from Scotland. Someone stated (but it hasn't been documented - yet) that "Lonaconing mines were recruiting coal miners from Scotland." Does anyone know the circumstances? What was the draw for them to leave Scotland? Finding LIVE relatives is even nicer than finding the departed ones :-) Thanks very much ~ Chere
