    3. On the 1910 census I had some relatives listed at the following places. I am trying to locate any records of them being there. They were just there for a little while - the mother had died and then they went back to their father. Where can I go for information? House of the Good Shepherd, Baltimore, Maryland St. Mary's Industrial School Thank you, Lara

    3. This is really interesting. I don't know anything about the McFarlanes, sorry, but I think that I may be related to the Jimmy (James) Love that you speak of. My great grandmother was Ora (Orianna) Love, born April 9, 1864 in Pottsville, PA. She married Thomas Kiddy around 1883. They also had a daughter named Ora Love Kiddy, born may 19, 1888. Most of the Kiddys were from Lonaconing area. I know that's still not saying anything about James Love. But, on the 1910 Census, it says that Ora Kiddy, now widowed, worked as a retail merchant in a grocery store. My sister tells me that the Love's did have a store in Lonaconing that was pretty popular. It may be the same store where your Sam and Elizabeth met. We don't know much more to the Loves. But I sure want to find out more now. Good Luck in your search. If you find out anything else, please let me know. Thanks, Louann -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Chere Athey Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 7:55 AM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDALLEGA] They met in a Lonaconing Candy Store Did anyone know my Sam, Elizabeth, Sam, Jr., Edna and Ruth McFarlanes from Lonaconing? Will you share something with us about your relationship with them? Or maybe something you remember someone sharing about them? Do you have stories or pictures? I have recently and happily reunited with cousins Carolyn McFarlane, Samuel's oldest daughter living in Paris France and Edna's youngest daughter Linda living in Roanoke, VA. We are most interested in our grandparents 'Coney activities and their life there. Can anyone shed any light on this? Family folklore has it that Sam and Elizabeth McFarlane met at a candy store in 'Coney. Where was "the candy store" in 1915? Is the James Love in the wedding announcement (below) the Jimmy Love of Love's Grocery in Lonaconing? James Love and Sam McFarlane must have been buddies? I wonder if there are photos and stories of Jim and Sam? Sam and Elizabeth's wedding announcement from 1915: From The Cumberland Times on July 1, 1915; " Miss Elizabeth Stevenson, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Stevenson, Knapps Meadow, and Samuel Barber McFarlane, were married in the First Presbyterian Church this evening at 5 o'clock by the Rev. H.L. Earnest, pastor of the church. The attendants were the bride's sister, Miss Jennie Stevenson, and Mr. James T. Love. The bride graduated from Central High School, this place [Lonaconing], in the class of 1914, and is well known in Lonaconing. The groom is employed by the Consolidation Coal Company. They will make their home in Knapp's Meadow." 1. [MDALLEGA] The County Home
    2. Jocelyn
    3. What used to be called the "County Home" was a Hospital, Poor House and Infirmary. People who were homeless or infirm, the elderly and the very young, rich, poor, white and 'colored' were taken care of there. Some stayed only a short time, perhaps until they found work or 'got better.' Some stayed until they died, whether it was from illness or old age. Many were alone in the world and had no-one to care for them. Women gave birth there. We were lucky to find our County Home records in the basement of the courthouse. (Mahoning Co., Ohio.) Has anyone checked the courthouse in Cumberland? Jocelyn in Ohio
