    1. [MDALLEGA] Grahamtown Marie.. a long shot
    2. Chere Athey
    3. Oh boy, this is a long shot... I had relatives who lived in Grahamtown that I remember when I was a little girl. She, Marie, was a pretty woman with short black hair, used to visit us in Knapps Meadow and we'd visit them. This would have been in the 1950's. She lived with another woman, I can't recall if it was her mother, sister or what. They lived in a brown and yellow house going towards Frostburg, it was on the right side, about 3 or 4 before the sharp turn to the left and the turn to the right to go to The Maplehurst. I believe she was my mother (Ruth McFarlane Thrasher)'s cousin on the McFarlane side but her last name was not McFarlane. Wish my brain was working better. Anyone from Grahamtown that remembers them? I may be able to find some living cousins from the McFarlane side if I could nail down the name. Thanks ~ Chere caskey23@comcast.net wrote: Connie, In the 1860 census, George H & Barbara Brant are living with George's parents Frederick & Mary in Cumberland Valley, Bedford Co PA. They were enumerated on July 7th, 1860. What is clear is that the Miss Brotemarkle who married George H used the name Barbara. In 1850, she is also listed as Barbara, living with her parents Michael and Susana in Allegany County. The date differences are easy to explain. What is recorded in the marriage records is the date of the marriage license. The name difference is open to lots of speculation, including difficulty reading the original records to the possibility that Barbara's legal name was actually Margaret. Hopefully this helps, Carol -------------- Original message -------------- From: connielark@comcast.net > Seeking help on a Brotemarkle/Brant connection. 3. In doing some research on a lateral family (Ann Collins m unknown Carter), I have found their descendents living on Clay Mountain Road, Mt Savage and they listed their occupations as clay miners. Several of their children (John and Edward) died in Mt Savage in the 70's. Anyone researching these families? Would also like to know more about the clay mining and possibly where Clay Mountain Road would have been. 3. There is a Port Clinton in Ohio. It is in the resort area of South Bass Island, Sandusky, and the amusment park of Cedar Point. Directly on Lake Erie, if you drove further in current time you would be in the Detroit area of MI. Perhaps they migrated down from Canada via this route. Someone mentioned the St. Lawrence, but it is nowhere near the river in the 19th century or the St. Lawrence Seaway of the 20th century. It was a seaport and one could and can sail directly across to Canada. I spent my summers on South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay) as a child. Then and until we sold our boat, we would take summer runs up to Pelee Island which is in the Canadian area of Lake Erie and to mainland Canada. 3. Carol, Thank you so much for the info you sent. This Gordon "WAS" from Allegany Co. When I checked the children I have for Denton and Clara Twigg, I find that Edgar married Denton Twigg's daughter, Evaline and the census indicated they had a daughter named Clara. Clara was named after her grandmother, Clara (Weaver) Twigg, Denton's wife from the Little Orleans area. Thanks for getting me started to finish this line. I have been working on my paternal lines for a change. I found that my father's side of the family is right from Washington Co. in the Clear Spring area where I live. I always thought they were from Berkeley Co, WV. My. paternal 4th gr-grandparents are buried within 8 miles of my home. Small world!!!!! Sharon

    3. There is an obit for a man that fits your profile/name listed in the Washington Co., MD Obit Locator. You can obtain a copy of this obit from the Washington Co. Free Library. The obit appeared 8 Mar 1917 in the Daily Mail. No age was listed - but it sure seems worth a shot after 10 years of wondering. Karen -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sharon Banzhoff Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2007 7:42 PM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDALLEGA] Gordon Researchers - Edgar L. Gordon Perhaps one of the Gordon researchers can answer this question for me. It would solve a 10 year old mystery. I went to Knoxville, (Frederick Co.) MD to find where Denton Twigg and his family. They left Allegany Co., MD and settled in Knoxville, MD. The men in Denton Twigg's family are buried in the Knoxville, MD Old Reformed Church Cemetery. Knoxville is in the Brunswick MD area and has been a RR town from very early on. The tombstones for the 6-8 Twiggs are very distinct and all lined up in a row. In the very middle of two of Denton's sons is buried an Edgar L. Gordon - d. 3/1/1917 (36 - 6 9) His stone is exactly like the Twigg stones and they are the only stones in this cemetery I noticed like this. Other than Denton, all of the Twiggs buried in this cemetery are young men, ages 26, 22 15, 13 and so on. I don't know what happened to the wives of these men. I know the one remarried a John H. Smith and he is buried at the end of the Twiggs and yes, he has the same type of stone. Minnie Twigg Smith's name is on the tombstone with John's but she has no death date on the stone. After finding Edgar L. Gordon, I thought perhaps he was an Allegany Co. man that married one of Denton's daughters, moved to Knoxville/Brunswick area and he too worked on the RR with the Twigg men. Does any of the Gordon researcher's know who this Gordon is?
