    3. If anyone is interested I have a newspaper article dated 19 Mar 1907 Cumberland, MD. It is a lawsuit that Rebecca Smouse brought against my grandfather Harrison Wilbur Johnson for 2 million dollars. She invested in the Johnson-Ingerall Co, which he was president of. I can't send an attachment, so email me reiss46atverizondotnet if you would like a copy. Also have one about Carrie Bramble running away to PA to see Harrison Wilbur Johnson, who she later married, it was from 1899. Also, John Bramble (Carries' father) bailed Harrison Wilbur out of Jail. 3. The bible was printed in 1907; it contains NO genealogical information. I suppose the only value is 1.That it is a Bible and 2. That the family would know at one time it belonged to a family member. _____ From: caskey23@comcast.net [mailto:caskey23@comcast.net] Sent: Friday, March 09, 2007 5:52 PM To: Patty125@adelphia.net; mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] S. 1. [MDALLEGA] G. Hillery Brant and Barbara Brotemarkle's dau. Lillian May Brant
    2. Barb
    3. G.Hillery Brant and Barbara Ellen Brotemarkle had a dau. Lillian May Brant. She first married William G. Hiser (Hiser Barrel CO.) WM died 20 Feb 1918 Cumb. All. MD. Lillian lived near the old John Heights Element. School near Memorial Hospital. Lillian b. 1879 Cumb. All. MD, died 31 March 1947 buried Rose Hill Cemetery, she had six children with William Garland Hiser. On 18 Nov 1927 she married my grandfather Harrison Wilbur Johnson, within a couple years he left her and went to Grottoes, VA (where he is buried) and lived with another woman Eleanor Knight. He was a railroader. Harrison Wilbur was married to Carrie Bramble, they had 2 children Rev. Chester Harrison Johnson and Eva Mae Johnson, (she married George Stein. Harrison Wilbur left Carrie Bramble, lived with my grandmother Esther (Drewnoski), together they had 4 children, but he was not divorced from Carrie Bramble. The day after he was divorced from Carrie, he married Lillian May (Brant) Hiser widow, my mother and siblings were put in the Burlington WV orphanage after a year of living with Harrison and Lillian. My mother remembered her well. Harrison it seems would get involved with a wealthy woman, spend her money making patents, then leave her. So I am told. Now there is a relationship somehow between Carrie Bramble and Lillian Brant. There is a lady in Cumberland that tried to explain all the connections. I need to call her again. She married a Brotemarkle. I took a picture recently of a Brotemarkle that is buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumb. MD. Both Carrie's mother and Lillian's grandmother's were a Rice. Carrie's-Elizabeth Ann Rice (dau of Levi) Lillian's- Susannah Rice (don't know who her father is). Ok, now this gets interesting, I am related of course to my grandmother (mate #3) of Harrison Wilbur, I am related to his 2nd wife Carrie Bramble through the Rice. I am related to his 4th wife Lillian Brant through her Rice. BTW, Harrison's 1st wife was Nettie B Chaney, and I don't even want to go there, they did have a son John Joseph Johnson. I might have some more tidbits if anyone is interested. It is tangled. Has taken me many years to get it figured out. This from Rose Hill Cemetery Book about Lilllian May (Brant) Hiser Johnson: Johnson, Lillie May Age: 68, Residence: Cumberland, MD. Date died: 31 March 1947, Burial: 3 April 1947, Funeral Home: George, Area: 83, Lot 22, Grave: A-2, Pg. ref: 172. Buried next to 1st husband, William Hiser. BJ reiss46atverizondotnet

    1. Re: [MDALLEGA] (no subject)
    2. Connie, In the 1860 census, George H & Barbara Brant are living with George's parents Frederick & Mary in Cumberland Valley, Bedford Co PA. They were enumerated on July 7th, 1860. What is clear is that the Miss Brotemarkle who married George H used the name Barbara. In 1850, she is also listed as Barbara, living with her parents Michael and Susana in Allegany County. The date differences are easy to explain. What is recorded in the marriage records is the date of the marriage license. The name difference is open to lots of speculation, including difficulty reading the original records to the possibility that Barbara's legal name was actually Margaret. Hopefully this helps, Carol -------------- Original message -------------- From: connielark@comcast.net > Seeking help on a Brotemarkle/Brant connection. 1. [MDALLEGA] Brant of Cumberland Valley Twp
    2. I'm not sure how this figures into Connie's query, but I'll toss it in there in case it's of any use. I remembered running across this newspaper mention from 1868--I'm guessing it's the same family. Maybe not. As run in the Bedford Inquirer for June 5, 1868. "Notice of Inquisition. Henry Brant, late of Cumberland Valley Twp, leaving widow Rebecca (since deceased), and seven children, to wit: George of Allegany Co., MD; Jacob; John (deceased, leaving issue); Andrew Jackson of Cumberland Valley Twp.; Catherine, wife of George Leasure of Cumberland, MD; and Rebecca, deceased." Only 6, not 7, children are actually listed. And the older couple were a Henry & Rebecca. So, I'm not sure this relates to Frederick and Mary's son George. Was Henry a brother to Frederick? This Henry was dead prior to 1850, and had baptized a child at the Old Log Church in Schellsburg as early as the 1810s. His widow Rebecca advertised the following notice from the Bedford Gazette of February 22, 1850: "Real Estate. 260 acres adjoining John Hendrickson & Moses Hardinger in Cumberland Valley, late the property of Henry Brant, dec'd. Rebecca Brant." To make things even more confusing, this marriage notice ran in the Gazette on June 20, 1845: "Married--on Thursday, the 22nd ult., Henry Brant to Rebecca Work, both of Harrison Twp." Clearly, this isn't the Henry Brant that baptized a child 30 years prior, nor is it likely the the Henry Brant whose estate was being dickered over in 1868. I have no particular interest in the Brant line, but remembered some newspaper gleanings concerning them. Hope they can be of use. Additionally, the following wills were probated in Bedford Co.: Frederick Brant, 1866 (Bk 4, p. 504); Henry Brant, 1848 (Bk 3, p. 413); and William Brant, Sr., 1892 (Bk 7, p. 151). There are also extensive Orphans Court files for Frederick, George, Henry, and William Brant in Bedford Co., outlining particular estate details and disputes.
