    1. [MDALLEGA] James Williams family
    2. Suzanne Glenn
    3. I am searching for information on James and Mary Williams found in the 1850 census in Allegany County, District 7, near the Robinson and the Kerns families. I can't find them in the 1860 census although some of their children Benjamin, John and Alexander (who married Susan Kerns) remain in Flintstone. Any suggestions as to how I might find some information on them would be appreciated. Are there genealogists I could hire to do research? 3. I sent back to the Catholic church in Lonaconing to check a death record and they did not have that but they did have my ggparent's marriage record and it had the names of both sets of parents INCLUDING the maiden names for the women! It taugt me to always check the church records even if you do have a civil record of marriage, birth or death. You never know what gems may pop up. ~~C Sullivan Jim Woods <kayakrguy@yahoo.com> wrote: I am adding this as a footnote to the discussion. 3. Connie, My Nephew's ex-wife was in an accident on a down slope near Friendsville, Md on I78 Friday night. I think her car got tangled up with a Tractor Trailer Truck. What is the Trauma Center like at Cumberland Memorial Hospital? She suffered a bad head injury. Why would she be taken to Cumberland, Md when she was closer to Morgantown, Wv? A question from my Sister to take care of my Nephew and Her Son. Thank you very much for this information. 3. Karen, You'll be very unhappy with Maryland's marriage certificates. It only lists the couple getting married, the date they got married, name of pastor and church. The application for marriage license lists also the ages of the couple and their occupations and marital status. Parents are not listed. Save your money. I've often found entire families in the Land Records. If you're writing to the Courthouse ask them to send you a the land record listings for the Hangsleben or what family you're researching. 3. Karen, To be best of my knowledge Maryland has ever required the name of parents on Marriage records (application for a license). I have marriage records (certified copies as far back as mid 1800's and parents are not named). Pat-T I just received what will be the first of many requests for marriage certifs.. I will be making to the circuit clerk's office. I don't have a problem with the need to purchase certified copies tho this isn't really necessary and I sure don't have a problem with paying $5.50 ea. or the fact that they will search such a large timeperiod. What I would like however is to have what surely must also be in the book (register) - the name of the parents! Is there a way to tastefully ask for this? I just suspect that in 1897 the parents were listed on the actual record! Would someone please comment on this - Karen Nelson Hangsleben

If not, would you email me his graduation picture from your yearbook? We are trying to find out if we are talking about TWO Bill Steppe's or if he is one and the same. Don't know if this could be the same person she and I were talking about or not, but the d.o.b. would seem to be right........I dated a fellow by this name while in h.s. 2. Carolyn Mellott
    3. Does anyone remember a Don Wood who lived in the Oak Park Community just below Southern High School in the late 60's till Nov. 1970. I cannot remember his wife's name, but would like to know where they are now, them or their daughter, Nancy or son, (can't remember his name). Anyone out there remember this family? I am especially looking for Nancy, the daughter who would be in her mid 50's. Thanks

    3. Karen, In 1944, while a h.s. student at Fort Hill, I dated William Thomas Steppe. He quit school, joined the Navy (and I wrote to him at this time), and then I understand that when he came back from the Navy he went back to school and graduated. He lived on Glenwood St. (I believe 912??) which is the street behind Maryland Avenue in Cumberland. Any further questions I can help with, email me at etilla@verizon.net. 3. Karen, There is a Maryland Avenue. Glenwood St. is a block away from the 900 block of Maryland Ave. It runs parallel with MD. Ave. in that 900 block. Glenwood St. is just one block long now. It may have been a longer street at one time. I have always known it as Maryland Ave. not Street. Also, there was a William Steppe that went to Fort Hill H.S. in the 1950's. 3. I find only one person listed in the local telephone book by this last name. There wasn't any address listed. I got up my courage to call the number only to find the phone answered by an older woman who was confused by my call. I would much rather write and then call especially when making these out of the blue type calls. I looked to the Cumberland newspapers available online via ancestry and for the time period found only a couple of things. One was a marriage in 1909 of a William STEPPE to a May FREELAND. I would hope that the many brothers in this family would have also married and the name had continued their lineage. I believe too that there was a local friar who was also a STEPPE a James STEPPE connected with SS Peter and Paul Cath Ch. there. I'm writing this to the list in the hopes that additional information will generate more replies - Thanks so much Karen -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of pat hook Sent: Friday, March 16, 2007 10:57 AM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Street naming/renaming question CumberlandTwigg/SteppeConnection Karen, There is a Maryland Avenue. 2. Alice Eary
    3. I have a picture of a one-room Garrett County school (possibly two-room) which I cannot identify. The school apparently had had an addition on the back. It had an entrance area on the front. The picture was probably taken around 1950. Originally I thought it was in the northeastern part of the county. However, not sure. It could be anywhere in Garrett County. If you think you might be able to identify it, contact me and I will send you a copy. alice@eary.net Thanks, Alice

    3. I'm working on my STEPPE connection to Cumberland. I downloaded WWI and WWII draft registration cards and need to ask a question. Has Maryland Street always been Maryland Street? How far away is Glenwood Street (900 block) to Maryland Street (900 block)? Two STEPPE brothers listed a Millard TWIGG as the person who would know their whereabouts (1942). Is there any relationship other than friendship between the TWIGG and STEPPE families? Thanks, Karen Nelson Hangsleben
