    1. [MDALLEGA] Dr. McColley (Wedding party answer)
    2. Chere Athey
    3. In case anyone is interested....the answer floated in from Ken Grandstaff in Thurmont, MD via The Crick Site, a blog for Lonaconing natives. The bride's father is Dr. McColley. My uncle, the chemist, Samuel B. McFarlane, Jr. worked with Dr. McColley at the Celanese. My grandfather Sam McFarlane, Sr. also worked at Celanese. Ken thinks the bride married a guy by the name of Bernie, who also worked in the analytical lab at Celanese. In 1966, Dr. McColley taught chemistry at ACC and that's from where I remember him. ~Chere Chere Athey <athey12@yahoo.com> wrote: Has anyone had a chance to view the 1950's wedding photos yet? 3. On that 1900 census, it says Thomas immigrated in 1875. Also says he has been married for seven years, which would be 1893. ----- Original Message ----- From: "louann creasy" <jcreasy@cfl.rr.com> To: <mdallega@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 04, 2007 9:43 AM Subject: [MDALLEGA] Kiddy/Kiddie brick wall >I am hoping that you all can give me ideas and suggestions where to look > next. > > I have come to a problem. 3. I am hoping that you all can give me ideas and suggestions where to look next. I have come to a problem. What is the best way for me to find and confirm the date and place of birth for my great grandfather Thomas Kiddy/Kiddie? I thought I had made a connection in Scotland who had a Thomas Kiddie born 24 Aug 1862 in Monimail, Fife, Scotland. I had in my records a Thomas Kiddie born abt. Oct 1862 in Scotland. But. the problem is that we had them married to different women. I have from my records, Thomas married to Orianna Love in 1883, not sure where. He has a Thomas married to Jane Archibald Falconer, also he has his death as 14 April 1918. I have Thomas' death as 1908, and it must have been in Maryland because I have Thomas and "Ora" Kiddie on the 1900 Census in Pekin. I know that part to be true, because I remember some of the cousins names shown on the census. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get more definitive info on Thomas Kiddie. All the censuses say he was born in Scotland, but there are a lot of Thomas's in Scotland. And how do I find out if they immigrated to the US through Philadelphia. I am assuming that's where they came in because "Ora" was from Pottsville, PA. Not sure where they got married either. I plan on going to the Family History Center today or tomorrow. Any suggestions as to what to look for are welcomed. I have myself confused at this point. Thanks, Louann Kiddy Creasy

    3. Thanks to those who answered my question about Allegany Grove. Funny thing happened right after I got your answers. I was looking through my piles of "stuff" trying to find a good map of western Allegany Co. and found an old newspaper article with a picture of Allegany Grove and a little story about it. I didn't find a good map yet. Connie

    3. Yes this is the same guy. I'm trying to locate his marriage record, he apparently immigrated from Ireland in 1811, and is found in Washington County, Maryland in 1811, by 1820 he is in Washington County, KY then moves to Hardin County, KY. I'm trying to locate his marriage record, he may have crossed the Patomac to marry elsewhere like in Virginia. Two of his children were born in Maryland. I still need to check Washington County, Maryland. Thanks for the Help. -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Judy Lock Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2007 5:52 PM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] Mulhall- Look-up The 1850 Census for Hardin County, Kentucky, Southern District: Thomas Mulhall, age 69, born Ireland, value of real estate, $1000.00 Ann Mulhall, age 63, born Maryland Mary A., age 24, born Kentucky Census taken 14th and 15th August, 1850, dwelling 115, family 115 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry L. 3. Does anyone have knowledge of where these tracks of land would be located on a present day map? From a survey dated April 27, 1774. "Sideling Hill surveyed for Baker Johnson April the 27th, 1774. Beginning at a banned white oak standing on the east side of Savage Mountain and about 30 perches from a small branch that runieth out of the said mountain into Georges Creek." This track of land called Sideling Hill (not the same one that splits Allegany and Washington Counties) contained 114 acres in 1774 and remained the same acreage when sold by Lemuel Barritt to Philip Crow in 1792. This track was mentioned on the Deakins survey near military lots 3957,3961 & 3713 though not butted up exactly to these lots. To the east was another large track named "Neglect" but I'm not sure the distance between "Sideling Hill" and "Neglect" or if "Neglect" was actually on the mountain. I tried to figure out the location of this "Sideling Hill" by superimposing the Deakins map over a more modern day map. The closest I could guess was maybe somewhere near Klondike but the scales were different on both maps. There may have been some fruit orchards in this area many many years ago Cherry and Peach. Another area I'm interested in was known as "Walnut Hills" located in Allegany county. This piece of land must have been divided up into smaller lots at one time as in 1863 Mary Ellen Crow purchased from Alexander Good 1/3 of lot number 4. I have a feeling this "Walnut Hills" maybe near present day Garrett County in the Avilton area. Just a hunch as Mary Ellen and her husband Isaac Crow were known to have resided in the area and were buried in Stark Cemetery. Any hints on where these areas might be located "today" would be greatly appreciated as I would like to explore them. Carol

    3. Take a look at the map in the this address from Mapquest: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&latitude=Ge6mjJ4aRJirD4h1R817jg%3d%3d&longitude=JVgfmTUGKhJ3fmWprJSzUw%3d%3d&name=Arby%27s&country=US&address=1202%20National%20Hwy&city=Cumberland&state=MD&zipcode=21502&phone=301%2d729%2d0448&spurl=0&&q=ARBY%27S&qc=%28All%29%20Restaurants This is the result of a search for Arby's in LaVale, there is a section noted as Allegany Grove not far from the restaurant. 3. I believe Allegany Grove is the area around Arbie's. Locust Grove is across the bridge from the Narrow's. Seems back in the 60's, when I worked at Uncle Lu's (now Arbie's) it was called Allegany Grove. 3. Hi Carol, That was fast, I am so happy for you to finally have the info. That you need. >From my experience with death certs. Is if I had to choose between a census record and death cert. I would go with the census record. I have found many times death cert. contain wrong info. It might be a first name, place of birth but through my research I have found it was incorrectly given by a family member. So my vote is to use census info. V. death cert. info. This is so exciting that you have proof of who she is, and there are folks on the list that have more info to share with you. WOW....Great work Allegany list provided by rootsweb for us to share with others and to the admin. that keeps us focused.. A great day... Her parents are listed as William Henry Miller and Katherine Duckworth. It lists him as being born in Germany and her in Lonaconing. This information was given by her son, Arch Hott as the informant. The information I have received from census, lists her parents as William George Miller born in Lonaconing and Dorcas Catherine Duckworth born in Lonaconing as her mother. Would I be better off to go by the census names then the death certificate, as possibly her son was wrong when he gave the information for the death certificate? Thanks.
