    1. Re: [MDALLEGA] Unknowns listed in Cutter-McKenzie Cemetery
    2. There are three "Unknown" graves listed in the Cutter-McKenzie Cemetery, which contains many graves of the MINICK family Is there someone interested in the Minick family that would know the children or Robert & Mary Minick, who lived in the area 1890-1920? Robert Minick died 1922, and he had a son Gurney, born 1911, who is very likely the unknown "Gurney" who also died in 1922. Mary's stone apparently does not have dates on it, but she had two children die before 1910, and she was alive in 1920. It is possible the two deceased children are the other two unknown stones, "Rosa" and "James W." Can anyone verify that this family had children that included Rosa and James W.? Rosa lived less than a year, and may have been stillborn, and James W. lived about 11 years. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Theresa, So far we are safe from the fires. Had a nice rain Sunday which has slowed the fires down - the only concern now is the wind. Actually I would like to have a copy of the book. If you get a chance to get there I would appreciate it. I am not sure what it cost per page, but I would be happy to send you money in advance. Contact me at fuzzylee@cfl.rr.com and we can make arrangements. 3. Dottie, you were right and for those who might be following this thread................The reply to me about the Ranging Ground possibly being the Sanging Ground was.................. "The name in the listing for "Ranging Ground" is in fact Elijah Friend." I believe the query said the names were listed in an 1851 Directory. Elijah Friend's father, John Friend, Jr. died in 1849 and Elijah inherited "Friend's Delight" at Sang Run, MD. Elijah operated the store at Sang Run, which was also the local Post Office. Down the road a few hundred feet was the Election House. Today, the election house is still there and, while I think the original store burned and was rebuilt - The Friend Store is still there. 3. If Ranging Ground is really Sanging Ground (which, I agree with Dottie - I think it is) you need to check a Garrett County, MD road map and find Sang Run Road. It crossed the Youghiogheny River a few miles above Friendsville, MD. (I think someone told me seven miles) The name "Sanging Ground" came from Ginseng/Ginsang that grows in the area. I would think that on your 1851 Listing you would see names like - FRIEND, CASTEEL, SAVAGE, ENLOW ; as those were some of the families that lived in the Sang Run area in that time frame. -----Original Message----- From: mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdallega-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of dcathell@verizon.net Sent: Monday, May 07, 2007 12:06 PM To: mdallega@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDALLEGA] missing towns... 2. Thanks, Connie & all... One I failed to ask about is Askettles... The Ranging Ground may well be Sanging Ground with a typo But Sanging ground is a curious name itself - what is it? These names came from Thompson's 1851 Mercantile survey, which lists 209 individuals in Allegany (and now Garrett) counties and what they did in 1851-52, and where they lived. several are listed on a road, with no indication where on the road... ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. I found Louise Jordan on the SS Death Index - 1898-1991 - so I'm perhaps getting closer to finally filling in the remainder of the holes on the STEPPE FGS. She was Maria Louisa Cecilia STEPPE born in 1898 and christened at SS Peter and Pal Cath Ch. Her family lived on Maryland Ave. In 1919 she wed a Johann Hardig or Harding at St. Mary's Cath Ch. Sometime later before 1950 she wed a Luther Jordan. There is no mention of this 2nd marriage at either SS Peter and Paul and St. Mary's. I thought this curious until I found a family headed by a Luther M. Jordan in a city directory. He was also living on Maryland Ave. Now, it might be a stretch, but I think Luther M. was actually Martin Luther Jordan. I know they married- Maria Louisa Cecilia Hardig/Harding or maybe even Steppe and Luther Jordan after 1933 and before 1950. Perhaps at a local Lutheran church - I looked and there are 5 Lutheran churches listed. Which one would be closest to Maryland Ave 800-900 block or the courthouse? I think I've got Luther Jordan's date of death to between 1962-1964 and hers to of course 1991 Oakland, Garrett Co., MD. When she moved to Garrett Co is also a question. d.o.d. 04 Mar 1991. 3. Why don't you order his death certificate? The MD Archives Vital Records index shows a Thomas Kiddy who died July 10, 1908, in Allegany Co. (See if you can get here: http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_jump.cfm?CurrentPage=265 ). It may well give a birth date and place, possibly parents (depending on whether the informant knew any of that). You might find Orianna Kiddie/y as a widow in the 1910 census, too. 2. Matt Combs
    3. My online access to the census is through the library here, and occasionally their provider takes databases offline. I am looking for an 1850 Census Lookup because that database is currently offline. Any help is appreciated. I've been searching for Mary HEATLEY/WILSON/SHANNON in Springfield, Hampshire, WV and in 1920 finally in Cumberland, Allegany, MD. I have most info, and late last night I hit upon an idea to search the census, finding Mary's mother and Mary as follows: 1870 Washington DC census Jane HEATELY, 58, f, w, Keeping House, Ireland John ROBERTS, 32, m, w, Shoemaker, MD Louisa ROBERTS, 28, f, w, keeping house, DC Jane ROBERTS, 5/12, f, w, -, DC The above is a big breakthrough for me because it helps to explain the Margaret L. ROBERTS on the 1880 Springfield census showing her as adopted daughter. A quick later nationwide search for John and Louisa did not find them in 1880, perhaps and accident or illness? 1860 Washington DC census Jane HETLEY, 48, f, -, -, 50, Ireland Mary HETLEY, 23, f, can't read it?, -, -, DC Louisa HETLEY, 19, f, can't read it?, -, -, DC can't read it? HETLEY, 17, m, app to ???, -, -, DC James HETLEY, 15, m, -, -, -, DC Any help deciphering the can't read would be appreciated. I am really hoping the 1850 Washington DC census is the breakthrough, listing the husband. Could somebody do a lookup in the 1850 DC census for this HEATLEY family? Please check alternate spellings. I appreciate your help. Matt _________________________________________________________________ Discover the new Windows Vista http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=windows+vista&mkt=en-US&form=QBRE
