Date: 5/16/2007 Name: Milton Plaugher Email: meplaugher@earthlink.net Surnames: PLAUGHER URL: Qrytext: Seeking info on Andrew PLAUGHER. Have partial copy of 1793 Allegany County Tax List with him listed at Grassy Cabin 74a. Can someone check the commissioners of the tax record C16 for assessment record 1793 for listing of Andrew PLAUGHER. Once that is established can it be found as to when he bought the land and when he sold it. Plus any other info on him. That county tax list is all the info I have on him. A well meaning cousin had a new headstone made for my great-grandparents and for my gr-grandmother, Mary Catherine (Sheppard) Thrasher. He used the death certificate date as a resource for her date of birth and it is wrong. I have seen the death record and it does appear to be written 1879. However, the actual year of her birth is 1871 (01/06/1871 - 04/02/1930). (from census records). Also, had she been born in 1879, Mary Catherine would have been 9 years old when she bore my grandfather. Mary Catherine Sheppard ("Sheppard" can be spelled several different ways) was born in West Virginia and we believe her father's name was John Edward Sheppard. (And as best I can tell from this fading fax), her mother's name was Mary Millison McGee or possibly McBee. Is it possible to get a birth record for her with this little bit of information from West Virginia? Thanks, ~ Chere
Hi Mark! The Greises are in my husband's family on his father's side. Let me know what you need. I'll ask the family. I used to live on the Valley Road extended and remember the Greise family. Last time I was in Cumberland, I thought I saw their business located somewhere in/near the city of Cumberland. I graduated from Fort Hill with an Eleanora Greise. Mark, There is/was a Greise family which lived out Valley Road. Several years ago they had a farm and ran a Butcher shop on their property. There were 3 sons that I know of----Bill, David & Frank. I don't know if there were any daughters. There are several Greises buried at St. Peter & Pauls Catholic Church Cemetery on Fayette St. in Cumberland. There was also a Robert Greise---I think was a cousin to the above. Believe he also farmed and lived on Mason Road area. Hope this helps a little in your search. Take care Pat H.

Hello I'm looking for anyone who knows anything about the ADAMS or GREISE family near Cumberland, Maryland. Thanks Mark A. Adams mark@designingcorner.com
This was my day to work at the Genealogical Society. Found the following: The following is from a listing of children who were signed over to Guardians either because their parents had died or because the parents signed them over to someone who could teach them a trade. GDN short for Guardian SUR short for person who put up the Surety (money) First Dawson child listed is: Benjamin Dawson- date of transaction 6 Dec 1833 GDN - Charlotte Dawson SUR - Kelita Potter Same info applies to Jane and Jackson Dawson by now a Gabriel Jacobs is also supplying surety. John Dawson - 9 Jun 1801 FatherL Edward Dawson GDN: Edward Marton SUR: James Dawson Mary Margaret Dawson - 6 Dec 1833 GDN - Charlotte Dawson Sur: Gabrial Jacobs and Kelita Potter Rebecca Dawson - 6 Dec 1833 Gdn - Charlotte Dawson SUR: Gabriel Jacobs, Kelita Potter Thomas Dawson - 6 Dec 1833 GDN: Charlotte Dawson SUR: Gabriel Jacobs, Kelita Potter And that's all of the Dawsons I found. Kelita Potter lost his wife in 1815 so maybe he had children of his own who needed a care taker and he was willing to help. He died in Ohio in 1856, at the age of 85. If you're interested in Kelita you can find his genealogy at the Allegany County College library and maybe still at the Historical Society of Garrett County or the Ruth Enlow Library in Oakland. According to the DRAKE DNA Project my line of Drake's is connected to Captain Francis Drake who moved to NJ.from NH.in the 1600's. I'm trying to tie up loose ends by figuring out where his descendants migrated to in the US. My EKA was William Drake born probably in Bucks Co.,PA. in the 1750's. He married Elizabeth Hinkle in 1780 in Frederick Co.,MD. I don't know for sure who his parents & grandparents were yet. He had at least two brothers,Thomas & David & one sister Hannah Drake. His brothers married Elizabeth's sisters Sarah & Margaret Hinkle. Their sister Hannah married first Robert Longshore,Jr.circa 1777 in Bucks Co.,PA. & second Daniel Cresap,Sr.in 1797 Allegany Co.,MD. My Drake line eventually migrated to OH. & beyond. Is anyone researching DRAKE's? Thanks for any help! Sincerely, Pam Drake in IN. padrake@sbcglobal.net

No, this isn't allowed. This type of stuff first goes to Rootsweb who then asks the administrator of the email list if they want to keep it or have it destroyed. No message has been received from Rootsweb so this person got their spam mail through. A few weeks ago someone was looking for Naturalization records in either Washington or Allegany County, 19th century. I was searching in Ancestry for some family data and came across this reference. We ordered the book. It was $26. + postage. They had it. "Naturalization's of Washington County, Maryland Prior to 1880" by Marsha Lynne Fuller. Desert Sheik Press, 1998. Reprinted by Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Maryland 2001 Phone: 401-876-6101. The reference stated that our ancestor who emigrated to Green Spring Furnace about 1850 was listed and the page no. The Annotation states date and port of arrival, place of origin, date and place of naturalization. Age is also provided. Original records located at the Washington County Courthouse. Our ancestor and family lived both in Washington County and later, Allegany County. Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood, OH
