My WAGGONER ancestor came to Allegany Co., MD from Nova Scotia, but under different circumstances. He was most likely a Hessian who accepted a land grant at Bear River, NS following the Revolution. (He had been a pow at Frederick, MD) He stayed a couple of years in NS, then migrated south back to MD. I believe the BARTH family also came to the area due to a Hessian/Nova Scotia connection. Susan
can someone tell me how to change email address. you can do it at my home email. thx . karen cooper
Pat, the minister at Trinity Methodist is Rev. Hickman. His secretary is Jackie Sarver, and she can be reached at 304-298-3229. The address is simply Dan's Run Road, Fort Ashby, WV 26719
If you are outside of West Va., go to umc.org and find the church locator option and enter the name of the church and other info asked for. If you are in West Va. call any United Methodist Church and tell them what you are looking for and they should be able to get it from the conference journal-Mark-newly retired UMC minister in Sevier Co. Tn. I am searching for somebody that may be able to direct me in the right direction for locating the keeper of the records for the Ft. Ashby Methodist Church. Name, address, phone number, e-mail whatever. Robison, Robinson, Sinnett, Sannet, Sinotte, Senit, Shomo, Skinner, Slater, Slaughter, Stottlemyer
I posted this awhile ago - have not had any responses so thought I would do so again for those people that may be new to the Allegany County and Mineral County list. Pat I am searching for somebody that may be able to direct me in the right direction for locating the keeper of the records for the Ft. Ashby Methodist Church. Name, address, phone number, e-mail whatever. A lady I was dealing with regarding St. Pauls Methodist Church in Patterson's Creek told me that before St. Pauls was built everyone attended Fort Ashby Methodist Church and used it for funerals, baptisms, etc. After looking at many of the church records for St. Paul's Methodist Church in Patterson Creek I do notice that all of my ancestors funerals were held at Fort Asbhy Methodist Church and one said Fort Ashby Trinity Methodist Church. May be one of the same? My question, do you know who I would contact to get information on the early church records - funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.? Or, can someone provide me the name of the current ministers for Ft. Ashby and Patterson Creek Methodist Churches? Plus any contact information. Thanks for your help. I am forwarding this from our local Brevard Co.FL Genealogy Group to my friends at the Allegany Co, Md. Group. I thought it might be of interest to some of you. It's a pretty good magazine in PDF format which comes out every two months if you haven't seen it yet <www.digitalgenealogist.com>. My attention was drawn first to the article about "Using a Digital Camera to Make Copies" and next LibraryThing, but after absorbing those two I read the rest of the eMagazine felt it was well worth mentioning to this group. Of particular interest, there is a review of a couple Plusteck Opticfilm scanners (actually it's one scanner, just two software levels differentiate them), a review of Photoshop Elements 5.0 (if you don't already use it), and an interesting and informative article on Wiki genealogy. There's even an article specifically for Mac users, not to mention articles for those with some specific interests. If you don't already subscribe to this electronically delivered magazine, you might give it some thought. I've found at least one if not many articles of interest in each issue since it began at the end of 2006. This and past issues are in 4MB range so keep the speed of your Internet connection in mind. Find somebody with a copy of this issue, I think you'll enjoy it. Take care... I was just going through some of my old e-mail correspondence and found that name mentioned by another researcher. I pass this info on in case it may be helpful. I quote: "My wife's ancestors, Fatkins came from Scotland to Nova Scotia. Then they were going to emigrate from Nova Scotia to western Maryland because of the coal mines that were opening up. The ship left Nova Scotia for R.I. but hit some rocks near Martha's Vineyards and sunk. Her ancestor grandmother and two of the children died. He gr-gr-gr grandfather hung to his fathers back and both survived. He went back to Nova Scotia, after some time he remarried and he made a second attempt to western Maryland which was successful" I was trying to figure out where my own ancestors arrived in North America when I had this interesting exchange of e-mails with another researcher. ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Get the Yahoo! toolbar and be alerted to new email wherever you're surfing. http://new.toolbar.yahoo.com/toolbar/features/mail/index.php ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MDALLEGA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

We had a relative who immigrated to Nova Scotia and then later to Maryland: Jane Dando was born 28 Dec 1827 in Dirth, Ayrshire, Scotland, She married William Turner. (born 1828 in England). We do not know if they married in Scotland or England or Nova Scotia. Jane and william apparently immigrated to Nova Scotia because in 1854 (2 years after their first daughter was born), she immigrated to Lonaconing; see Elizabeth Dando Turner below) .
