Only when the weather gets that low do you really feel it. It is so dry here, as compared to when I lived in Maryland 5 or 6 below doesn't seem like it is that. But in Maryland 20 degree weather just went right thru you. I suppose because it was a wet climate. When it snows here, you can sweep 6 or 7 inches off the porch with no effort. But try to do that back home in Maryland. We all know how heavy the snow is. COME ON SPRING.
Try 30 below with a wind chill of 50 below here in Minnesota.
or everyone is curled up with a blanket !! hate this cold and snow

Did you ever feel that when the weather is "acting up", for some reason the list appears to be quiet? Maybe messages aren't coming through?????? How is the weather. We have had at least 10 below to 30 below temperatures since before Christmas, that's bad even for Minnesota. We also have about 12 inches of snow. We got one big snow and then every once in a while a snow shower which gives us 1/2 to 1 inch of snow. And since it is so cold we have snow on the ground from around the first of November (this year) til April. This is bad bad bad even for a lot of the old time Minnesotans. They are sick and tired of cold this year. The love snow it helps the economy.
the list isn't quiet - it is DEAD - no action.
Is the list quite tonight or am I having a problem with my new email server? Dick Crow "The Ole Crow" Retired and enjoying it! "Fair Winds and Following Seas."
I want to thank you all for your replies. I am impressed that everyone agrees. It is also nice to know that I am related to half of this list. Ann Letitia Athey was the daughter of John Athey Jr. Once again I have learned that family legends are often not true. The informant from 1971, my grandfather's younger sister, would have been eleven when her father, the only person left in the immediate family who had direct knowledge of the Athey's, died. I am the 5th great-grand-daughter of John Ath(e)y and descend through his son Basil. This line goes through my maternal grandmother. She often spoke of her great-grandparents and she pronounced the name ATH -EE.
Chere pronounces her name as Ath-ee
for those who are new to researching in Alleg. co., or as a reminder to those of us who have forgotten about this website. It is Searchable and has directories, obits, many records. Enjoy. Ruth http://www.whilbr.org/default.aspx
I have know three people named Athey from the Laurel Maryland area and Virginia area and all three pronounce it Ath-ee.
As I finish writing my mother's ancestry (two years of work since I signed on to this list) I have one burning question: I suspect that someone can help me with this one: How did my 3-great grandmother Ann Letitia Athey pronounce her last name? The pronunciation I have only from notes from 35 years old was "Aughey" Richard Perrin Day
Alexander Morton was born about 1868, son of John and Margaret Jackson Morton. Siblings included James, Mrs. Elizabeth KIDDY, Govan, Mrs. Violet LOAR, and Mrs. Margaret SIMPSON, according to his obit of 1944. In the 1900 census for Alleg. co., Alexander age 32 is still single. in 1910. Alleg. co., he is with his wife Jennie age 29, and they had married in 1901, and had 4 children: Nina, Roy, Allen, and Lloyd. By 1920 census (listed as MARTIN) he is with Minnie his wife. (Minnie was Marion/Minnie HAMILTON MCGANN, widow of John McGann who d. in 1909). Children in the home in 1920 were: Nina, Roy, Allen, Lloyd, Melvin and Alexander.) I at first thought all the children were Minnies, but since researching further with the census records, I found the 1910 census and the 3 oldest children and wife Jennie. (I believe in 1910 Minnie was in NJ). I would like to know the surname or more info regarding Jennie, who must have died between the 1910 and 1920 census. I have been unable to locate an obit or death record for her in the online newspaper archive I subscribe to. Any one researching this family? Or can assist with further info on Jennie. Chere, this looks like Sonny is not a son of my Minnie. But possibly he would have info as to whether Melvin or Alexander Jr. were children of Jennie or Minnie. thanks for any assistance. I added all the names from the Transcription Project on the Fairview Cemetery. To the findagrave site. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=33507123&CRid=80954& I think some people that are listed in this Cemetery are in the other Fairview cemetery in Artemas. I am not sure but I thought the Fairview Cemetery in Flintstone is closed to any new burials? anyone know for sure? Joe Mckenzie
