    1. [MDALLEGA] REV WAR LOOK UPS
    2. Scott Wolfe
    3. Hi all. I have the following CD, which I am willing to do some lookups from. Revolutionary War Pensions Lists, Military Records. Contains images from 12 volumes of Revolutionary War pension records. Contains information on approximately 110,000 individuals. Some types of information that "MAY" be included is… Name and Rank, Regiment and description of service, Place of residence, Nature of wounds or disability, Date of death, Occasional reference to family members. Please send any requests for a lookup from this CD directly to me at [email protected] Please be sure to put "Rev. War Pension Lists" in the subject line of your message. Please include the state they enlisted in and or filed in which may be the same state they died in. If you know a spouses name or birth date and or death date. Even if you are not certain that your ancestor served during the Rev. War, you may still feel free to ask for a lookup, as long as you know the person would have been of age to have served in the war. 1. [MDALLEGA] David GARDNER & Ethel Mae (KELLER) GARDNER family
    2. Ruth Sprowls
    3. In doing a little more digging, I believe the first name of Mrs. (Gardner) GURLEY MORGAN was Mary Margaret. I have located a few articles on this family in Bedford Co.,PA and Cumberland MD if anyone is researching this family I will gladly send them to you. David R. GARDNER and Ethel N. KELLER both of Bedford PA applied for marriage license March 19, 1920 (Bedford Gazette). There was a David Gardner (possibly father of above David R.) that died 1907, Jan. ) at age 93. Article has a little family history. (Jan. 18, 1907, page 1, Bedford Gazette, Bedford PA) I have other misc. articles. Ruth Sprowls

    3. Many months ago we had a discussion about what a coaster was. I had posted an article for about 1907 or so about Alex Allerdice injured badly after he was hit by a coaster. I think we kind of all agreed that a coaster was a sled or sleigh time vehicle. Well, I just found an article from 1952 that mentions that Gladys Morris was the only girl entry in the coaster event, at Lonaconing, scheduled to get under way on Douglas Ave. She was going to drive the car with her brother Keith. SOOOO..... I am thinking a coaster was most likely like todays Soap Box Derbies. I imagined that Alex was hurt badly by a sled - but now to think it was a derbie coaster, hmmm he most likely was hurt. I just thought I would pass this bit of info just in case someone else was still pondering it. haha yeh right. Ruth

    2. Ruth, Here is a copy of an OLD EMAIL I received from Pat Hook: Subj: Re: [MDALLEGA-L] Hooks Grave Yard Date: Tuesday, June 8, 1999 8:50:09 PM From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Steve, Yes, " Hooks Grave Yard" was in current day Henderson Ave. Bond, Columbia, Walnut and some other streets up further into North Cumb. That area is still known as "Hooks Addition" understand that name is on all the Property Deeds in those areas. There are no cemeteries on any of these Streets now, except for 3 burials in the first alley on the right on Walnut St. coming up from Valley St. One burial is a Hughes, understand he was Civil War soldier from Hagerstown, MD. Neighbors care for this small burial spot. It is mostly all residential area now. Some of the others buried at old Hooks Grave Yard was reinterred at Rose Hill Cemetery. In the Rose Hill Cemetery Book it has notation of those --reinterrred from "Hooks Grave Yard" All this land was originally owned by John Snowden Hook--(no relation that I have found so far) his heirs divided it and sold it in lots. 3. I came across this article posted by Charles Often (source info at end of article) - was just wondering - does anyone know where the exhumed soldiers were buried and if they are still listed in records for Hook Cem.? Of if the records were changed, or know anything about his? Where is Hook Cemetery? Ruth Sprowls HOOK CEMETERY 08 Apr 1887 Capt. D E Brockett of the Tyler Post G A R, recently received a letter form R N Batcholder, the Deputy Quartermaster General of the United States Army, regarding the removal of the remains of Union soldiers, which are lying in uncared for graves, to some national cemetery. He says, "Upon investigation, it is ascertained that in one of the burying grounds known as Hooks Cemetery, there are the graves of 12 Union soldiers. The grounds are practically abandoned and badly neglected, the greater part of the enclosure being gone, and of course, exposed to deprecations of animals running at large, but there were no indications of recent disturbances of the surface, though hogs have invaded the premises. It would deem proper that steps be taken to protect them". Levin was over 70 in 1840, and his wife--his third--many years younger. I would be grateful for any information, guidance or hints about this family, particularly about Eliza and her Snowden origins.
