Yes you are correct, these are just a list of who applied for a marriage License. I was told years ago that this doesn't mean they actually married. But most did. Linda

?Please, can anyone tell me if? "The Flowering of Maryland Palatinate" by Harry W. Newman is in any? genealogy library anywhere around? the Cumberland region?? Hopefully,?? Nancy Biggs Nancy if you can use the google search for books it tells you where you can find the book by using you zip code. It looks like the book is in a lot of libraries.
To any list members out there in Bedford County, PA or Allegany County, MD who have BENNETT ancestors somewhere in their family tree jigsaw puzzle: As you may know, (or may not if you're a fairly new member to the lists) know, I have been engaged in the rewrite/update/overhaul of "The Bennett Family Records of Bedford County, Pennsylvania" which was originally put out by Donald Bennett in 1971. This BENNETT line was centered primarily, in the beginning, in Southampton Township of Bedford County, then filtered north up into the county, and south across the Mason-Dixon, and west into Cumberland, etc. (Then scattered more as westward expansion and modern transportation evolved.) I started the work with gusto, then about three years ago, real-life reared it's ugly head, and the genealogy work pretty much came to a screeching halt. (How *DARE* life get in the way of my hobby!!) :-) I've now been able to restart my work, and ask that if you are related to this line and wish to make sure that your group's info is up-to-date (or as much as we're able to), please contact me off-list. I do have to ask for anybody who knows: I'm at a loss right now as to the best method or software package that I could use to publish the various info, so that it comes out in a readily-trackable format. As written/compiled, there was no index, and the family lines jumped all over the place like a rabbit on drugs, so I need a program that would allow me to import info and put it into a better sequential order. (Does that make sense? I think that you know what I mean though.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks - Jerry

If you go to your local library and ask a librarian you may not only find where that book is in a library collection but you may be able to "inter-library" borrow it. It would come to the library near you. Sorry Nancy, I doubt you will find that in Cumberland. Boy that is an old book. In Ireland we were told that little boys wore dresses "to fool the fairies" who liked to steal little boys for their own. It's good to see a query get such an enthusiastic response. Does anyone know about the Asbury Methodist Church in Hagerstown? The family legend says ancestor Orpha Daisy Burnett, buried from there 27 Jul 1968 was Choctaw. Also, is anyone near the Rose Hills Cemetery in Hagerstown to look at her gravesite for symbols and also who's buried nearby? Donna Hogle, San Diego
John, I am trying to find the parents of Jonathan Scott Hamilton born in either 1831 or 32 in Cumberland, MD. Word of mouth says that his father was Jonathan Scott Hamilton Sr, a wealthy plantation owner. There are no records in Australia that mention anything about his origins in the USA apart from the year and place of birth. It becomes a bit confusing as when his last two children were born (when he was in his 60s) he used the name Jonathan Boyer Hamilton. He also gave both of those children the middle name Soister. We have confirmed niether of these names come from his wife's side.
