had the great grandaunts married or died single? c'mon, tell the whole story. lol Ruth
The finding of the aforementioned missing great grandaunts (my wife's great grandaunts) really was not a major accomplishment, I did not discover a miracle skill to knock down any walls...hence saying they were hiding in plain site. But, it gave my wife an opportunity to exclaim "I told you so". Carole thought the information may have been noted in one of the family bibles, it was. The following new obituaries have been posted on OurBrickWalls.com I will be keeping a list of all the new obits on the "Whassup" page along with their posted date. Dick Crow suggested this would make it easier than going through all the others to find the new ones. Hello Ellis: I found the same situation with the Bowsers. Contrary to the commonly held belief that the family name was originally "Bauser" in the old country, I've come to the conclusion that our immigrant ancestor was actually Johannes Buser, baptized Jan. 17, 1734 in or near the village of Ziefen in Canton Basel, Switzerland. I've recently worked up a three page report regarding how I came to that conclusion if you or anyone on the list is interested. It's interesting to know that John Adam I and Andrew Dietle (whatever spelling) were brothers. I assume you've traced both back to Bavaria. Lannie and Dana Dietle's book, written in 1996, doesn't mention Andrew. I corresponded quite a bit with Lannie in the early 90's when he was working on the book, but lost touch with him several years ago. The book is not indexed so not easily searched, but I think the Bowsers only connect to the Dietles through John Adam Dietle II. I don't recall that they intermarried with descendants of Nicholas Dietle. It appears to me Andrew Dietle may not have had any sons. Do you know of any? My thought regarding the land transaction in 1849 when he bought 73 acres and sold it off within three years was that maybe he had no sons, and sold it to son-in-laws? I have no information about this/these families, but wanted to make a comment. Germans give their children multiple names and call them usually by their 2nd name. I looked and looked for Anton Schroeder to no avail. I found on a SS application of his son that his "real" 1st name was Heinrich. Perhaps your ladies are listed but not by the name they were called. Just a thought. Hello Ellis: I have a family history of the Dietle family of Greenville Twp. in Somerset County. The family descends from a John Adam Dietle born in Bavaria 1806. I checked the book for female descendants named Julia and Magdalena, and there were none. John Adam's and his descendants appear to be the only Dietle families in Somerset County in early census records. Sam ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ellis L. and Carole G. Over more years than we can remember we have checked into, looked at, and researched possibly every known record and document available, including family bibles and journals, and church records, finding the variations and intermingling of the following spelling of the various surnames: (Deetle, Deichel(le), Deichtel, Deightle, Deicle, Deitel(le), Deitchel, Dieddle, Diegel, Dieghtle, Dietel(le), Diettle, Dietzel), (Deahl, Deal, Deale, Deihl, Dichl, Diehl) Keeping the correct (separate) members of each line (with various spellings of surname) within the proper branch has proved challenging, to say the least. Finding those who married into each and merged the various spellings. As we all have experienced this is common place, for those of us researching Allegany / Garrett and Somerset, where the families resided, but, not limited to those areas. We have no idea who either, Magdalena, born abt. 1851 or Julianne, born abt. 1856 married. We were hopeful someone may have a unconnected lady married to a family member who might fit, that we could look-into, if she could be the missing great-grandaunt. Thank you. I think you can eliminate "Dietle" and variations of that surname where Diehl or Deal is concerned. The Dietles were a completely different family from the Diehls. Those with the "Deal" spelling are more numerous in Somerset County, PA. Regarding early census records, you'll find the the surname spelled according to the census taker's "best guess". I don't think you'll find Dietle used for Diehl or Deal. The Dietles are well documented. I and others on the list have a good bit of information on the Diehls from the Cove, Accident area which was part of Selbysport District in 1850, but I've not found a Julia and Magdalena Diehl being sisters. Perhaps if you give the sources for your information (census records, who they married, etc.), someone on the list might be able to help. Their names are Magdalena “Lena“, born abt. 1851, in Grantsville, Allegany Co (now Garrett Co) MD, and her sister Julianne “Julia“, born abt. 1856, also in Grantsville. Prior to Grantsville, the family lived in Selbysport, later Accident, the Cove area. The girls parents are Johann Andreas "Andrew" and Maria Katharina "Mary". The family surname is variations on the following, depending on what document or records are being looked at: (Deetle, Deichel(le), Deichtel, Deightle, Deicle, Deitel(le), Deitchel, Dieddle, Diegel, Dieghtle, Dietel(le), Diettle, Dietzel) There has also been some records where the family has been intermingled with the surname variations: (Deahl, Deal, Deale, Deihl, Dichl, Diehl) If you have any variation of the above surname that may fit, I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.
