    3. Hi Earle, Ruth Vogel was my grandmother. I'll need to fish around for it, but I have a picture of a Sunday school or confirmation class ... perhaps you will recognize some of the people in it. I believe my father and I decided at some point that one of her brothers, maybe Edward, was in it ... but that is about all I can remember off the top of my head. --wb Earle Edmunds wrote: > mr vogel was my sunday school teasher at st lule's in the 1930's he owned a shoe store > > BIGDOG > > > > >> From: plusketpg@comcast.net >> To: MDALLEGA@rootsweb.com >> Date: Fri, 13 Aug 2010 09:43:23 -0500 >> Subject: [MDALLEGA] Henry Vogel >> >> Hi, >> >> Does anyone have a copy of History of Allegany County by Williams and Thomas >> (1923) and might they take a few minutes to look something up for me? >> >> Henry Vogel is my great-grandfather... he had several shoe stores in >> Cumberland in the late 1800's and early 1900's... 2. I tried that by calling their offices in Ohio - the lady acted like she had never heard of genealogy. I gather Cumberland has sorta wiped their feet clean - does not seem like there is any records around there either. 3. I could not find either of these on WorldCat (the database that shows you library catalogs from all around the country and abroad), but I did find The Kelly-Springfield Story, by Kenneth A Jackson and Gerald N Hess (279 pages!), which might be helpful. A number of libraries have it, particularly in Maryland, so you might be able to get it on interlibrary loan. 2. Is there anyone out there researching this family? I am in SLC doing genealogy research, but after a week and a half I am still at wits end. It does not look like they owned any land or paid any taxes. I have searched both WV and MD with no luck. I am looking for maybe a first wife of Solomon, a mother of a Joshua Robinson along with many other children - Samuel, Elizabeth, Rhoda, etc. And possibly a second wife to a Mary A M Sinnott. Solomon was born about 1810. Don't know where - Ireland, MD, VA. They seemed to be big time Catholics. Children starting with Elizabeth abt 1833, my great grandfather, Joshua in 1846 all the way to a Susan in 1850. It appears that this family is on the 1850 & 1860 census in of Hampshire Co. I can not locate them before 1850 or after 1860. They possibly died but can not locate a death record in either WV or MD. Pat

    3. Pat~       I know there are a few Irish Catholic sacramental records with the SLC records but not sure of which county and townland.  Anyway, the surname SINNOTT with variations of spelling is a strong County Wexford name.  If there are Wexford records available, check them out.        As you may or may not know, Irish Civil records for Catholics start in 1864.  Birth had a fine if not registered.  Marriages and deaths did not; therefore, in the early years of Irish Civil registration records may be sketchy.  However, eventually there was a fine for unreported deaths.   Irish Civil Records are available with the SLC or at least indexes because they are on line at the LDS Beta site.       Since MD Civil records only started in 1898, you might see if there are any sacramental records for MD or WV available.   Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood, OH --- On Sun, 8/8/10, patrobison@aol.com <patrobison@aol.com> wrote: From: patrobison@aol.com <patrobison@aol.com> Subject: [MDALLEGA] Robison To: MDALLEGA@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, August 8, 2010, 4:01 PM Is there anyone out there researching this family?   I am in SLC doing genealogy research, but after a week and a half I am still at wits end.  It does not look like they owned any land or paid any taxes.  I have searched both WV and MD with no luck.
