The Ellicott City Times, Ellicott City, MD Saturday, July 29, 1893 DEATHS - Emory C. DEMPSEY, age 19, (s/o Amos W. DEMPSEY, prominent resident of 4th District of Howard County), met with an accident last Friday evening which resulted in his death on Sunday afternoon. He was returning from a visit near the residence of Honorable John S. TRACEY on the Frederick Pike when the colt he was riding suddenly shied, throwing him violently to the ground. He became entangled in the reins which encircled his neck and arms and he was dragged furiously some distance by the wild animal. He was discovered about a half hour later by a colored man who was passing and summoned aid. He was taken home in an unconcious state. ```
