Helen, I have information that my 4th or 5th grt. grandfather ( surname HITAFFER OR ANY VARIATION) was a Hessian soldier,who left ranks and joined the Americans. It is said he was given a piece of land upon which he built a log cabin either in VA or MD. I have been searching for aprox. 15 years for this man with the very unusual name. So far all Hitaffers in this country are related to me. The Hitaffer whom I beleive to be my 4th grt. shows on the 1800-1810 Loudoun VA ce as a Jon Hitopher sp Marie. To date I beleive this should be a John and the earliest Hitaffer or such anyone has found. This Jon was bo by 1765. I'm sure this name has been angilized to some degree. How or how much is the big ?
