Mary Ann- Was the name Schuechen that of a female ancestor? The reason I ask is that -en or -in was added to the women's surname, a German form of gender identification. The Journal registry (in 1991 issue) of Hessian soldiers' names include Schuchard, Schuebel, Schuetze which are similar. The spelling of the German names varied so much I have at times given up (temporarily!) in disgust. Just a thought.
