Catoctin, Frederick, Md. Looking for records that can be found for this community or any information of what churches are available or anything else about this area, especially in 1880. Found my g g grandfather Thomas Henry Butcher age 44 Blacksmith living there with wife Mary C age 30 and no children listed in the 1880 cnesus. Mary would be his second wife. His first wife would be Keziah Francis Oden married in 1859 in Poolesville, Montgomery County.She had died sometime before 1870. They had two sons William Thomas Butcher born abt 1860 in Poolesville and my great grandfather Marion Francis Butcher born about 1863 in Poolesville. The boys were raised by the maternal grandparents Alfred and Rachel Sedgwick Oden in Poolesville, Montgomery County, Md. In 1862 a Union doctor and officer declared that Thomas Henry Butcher age 26 of Poolesville post office,f arm labourer was not fit for military duty due to chronic dysentry. I was assuming he ahd died but could find no resting place in any local cemetery and thus continued to assume he was lost in the civil war somewhere. Every indication indicates that this is one and the same man and my g g grandfather with wife number 2. What also seals it for me is that 6 houses or farms up the road is Nathaniel Oden with wife and children and it is proven that he is the oldest son of Alfred and Rachel Oden of Poolesville, Maryland and the oldest brother of the deceased Keziah Francis Oden Butcher. So we have brother in laws living very close to each other in a neighboring county and community. That makes sense because Nathaniel was teh first born and Keziah Francis the second born so I would think they might have been close to not only in age but friendship as well and family ties. Question is anyone working on these lines and can anyone help me with research in this community of Catoctin, Frederick County, Md. Thank you. Jackie in Idho
