Jim, Sorry to butt in here, but I wonder if your brick wall might be the result of hard-to-read handwriting? The index to Washington County Marriages 1799 - 1860 lists this marriage as Wm. GLANDERS to Mag. PEACOCK. This index was made from the civil registration rather than the church records. Both records, though, were based on someone's interpretation of handwritten records and both could have been misread. I have found that it is often the first letter of the name that is the hardest to read. I have found Zinkand records indexed under "Sinkund" "Jenkin" and "Linkand", just to name a few. So mutate that script upper case "G" or "Gl" or the other letters in your mind and you might discover that Mr. Glandon was a Sanders or something like that. Dory, You are so right. One must go to the source. The book BIBLE RECORDS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY used the list at the WASHINGTON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. The list was 20 years old. There was 40 names with dates listed. 11 listings had mistakes. The real killer was "Martin Speck , Senior" was written up as " Martin Speck , son of Williams". I wasted 6 months on that error until I went to Hagerstown ( 300 miles) to check out the Bible myself. tom -----Original Message----- From: Dory Zinkand [mailto:dory@dol.net] Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2002 5:14 PM To: MD-FRED-GEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDFred] William Glandon Jim, Sorry to butt in here, but I wonder if your brick wall might be the result of hard-to-read handwriting?
