    3. Every time I see the name Bowers, I get the feeling it is another variation of the name Powers. Have you considered this or am I way off base? When and if I ever find time, I need to look into this. My Power(s) family was early 17th century Catholic settlers in St. Marys Co. They migrated to Nelson Co. KY by early 1800s, then settled in Hancock and Daviess Co. Was your Bowers Protestant? They could have moved north because of their religion. Artis Powers So. 3. Artis: My Bowers (as far back as I have made it thus far) show a George Bowers in Maryland as his son Leonard was born there in fall of 1760. Leonard fought in Rev. War and then went to Tenn. where he married Rebecca Nave in 1785 and they were primarily in Carter County, Tenn and surrounding areas and a number of them came to Missouri. I have not found any relation in Ky. or any connection to a POWERS at this time, but then who knows how people spelled things or what they thought they heard (even today that happens), so there is a possibility. We did have some POWERS here in Missouri and there are probably some descendants in our local area, but we have never made any connection thus far. If you come up with anything, be sure to let me know. Lee Ripperger

As far as I know the Bowers were Baptists as Leonard, his brothers and several members down the line were Baptist preachers.
