Gerald, thank you for your reply. Yes that is correct for the German Butchers and especially the German Butchers in Maryland(some did change from Metzger to Butcher) and surrounding area but mine seem to be of the English orgins. At least from the research I have done so far. I appreciate your comments and help ! Regarding WILCOXON/EN, BUTCHER AND COE families: I'm also interested in Wilcoxon/ens. My mother, 93, is descended from Benjamin and Emily Hickman Wilcoxon's (original spelling) son, Thomas Jefferson Wilcoxon, who married Sarah Fry(e), and their son, James Wilcoxen (spelling changed in early 1900s) and Alice Coe of Belpre, Washington County, Ohio. Tom's brother, Sam, married Sarah's sister, Mary Fry(e). Benjamin and Emily were married in Columbiana County (southeast Ohio) and I believe came to Ohio from Virginia. We think Benjamin was related to Lewis Wilcoxon who came from Va. to Urichsville, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Many Wilcoxons are still there. Benjamin and his branch settled in Athens and Washington counties, O. We have no clue about the origin of the Wilcoxons, but I have heard the rumor that a Wilcoxon came to America to help Benjamin Franklin establish the U.S. Mint. Incidentally, one of Thomas Jefferson Wilcoxon's brothers was named Benjamin Franklin Wilcoxon. I have many names and dates from my own research over the years and from memories of my mother and her sister who died in Sept. just shy of her 100th birthday. Glad to share. Our Wilcoxen reunion is coming up and the clan will be asking me for new info! Also, I believe my Coe branch is related to the Butchers of Va. (now W.Va.). Helen, Thanks for the offer and the look up. To date, the only Wilcoxon that I have information on is Ann Henrietta Anderson, 1809-1892. She married Aden Anderson in 1827. Helen , Thank you so much for your help with my Hitaffers. I've been working on the clues you sent and so far have found some of my family , however as yet I have not found anything on the earliest I or anyone else that I know of has. This would be a John Hitaffer bo by 1765, living in Loudoun Co 1800. His son another John married Sarah Dutro 1817 . I beleive Sarah was bo in Frederick. Using the soundex for Hitaffer didn't seem to do much good. I did find a member of this family of the generation of my grt grandfather who was in the Civil War, spelled his name Hitaffer and his war record says he was bo in Germany. He was not. My husband was in the Army Air Force in W.W 2 and the U. S. Army had no record of this until my husband presented his discharge papers, metals etc. to them. So these records are not always right. Please keep me in mind for any new leads. God Bless You. Barbara
There is a Henry Delawter, in The German Regiment of Maryland and Pennsylvania in the Continental Army 1776-1781 by Henry J. Retzer. Published (1991) by Family Line Publishers Rear 63, East Main Street Westminister, MD 21157. Does that sound like something you want? In DAR Patriot Index published by them in 1966: Detwiler (includes Dettweiller and Detweiller) Christian, Jacob, Jacob, Jacob, John, John. ll of these men were from PA. Which do you require? Virginia, Cox sounds English unless they anglicized a German surname. No Cox in the German Regiment however, there's a page of Cox in the book DAR Patriot Index published by then in 1966. Please give me a first name or two. Helen

To all- Over the course of approximately the next two weeks RootsWeb will be moving to newer, faster, bigger, more reliable servers. The move will take place in stages with only a few servers/programs/services being down at any one time. Message boards will not be affected by the move since they are housed on Ancestry servers. Mailing lists will be down, hopefully for no longer than a day, when list servers reach their turn to be moved and updated. This will probably occur some time next week. For up-to-date information as to which servers are/will be down at any given time during the move consult the RootsWeb HelpDesk page: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ The HelpDesk will be the last to be moved so that it can be kept up and running to inform you about the schedule as the move progresses. It is expected that all messages sent to the list during the move will eventually be sent through but may be queued until the mail servers are updated. If you send a message to the list and don't see your message coming through immediately, or if you don't receive any list mail for a period of time, you can probably assume that the delay is move-related. Please don't write to the list and ask about the move or about whether the list is down. Any such inquiries should be directed to the HelpDesk. Remember to check the main HelpDesk page for the status of the move first. When the move is completed we can expect faster more reliable service. Thanks for your patience. Joan Young, administrator
