Hi, BARBARA! I'm looking for MAYBERRY's of Washington Co., and also, Fredericktown area. My gggrandparents were Israel Mayberry & Catherine Hass dau of Peter & Mary Baer Hass of Hampshire Co., Va(WV). Also, his oldest son Thomas Mayberry born @1831, he was listed on the Hampshire Co., Census living with his grandparents Peter & Mary and his two sisters Mary and Sarah. The mother Catherine must have died paior to the 1850 Census. I have been unable to determine her date and place of death, burial site. For additional info on this family I am including info on one of the sons of Israel & Catherine (They had three sons, Thomas b. @1831; Peter J. b. @1933; Frances aka Frank b. @1835). Peter J. Mayberry m. Margaret Doyle dau of Wm. E. Doyle former owner of Antietam House. Also, a former Maryland Legislator in 1846. Peter J. Mayberry also, appointed Sheriff of Washington Co., MD in 1875-1877, and in 1882 was elected to the Maryland Legislature beating his apponet by five votes. I would appreciate anything you could find out about this family in your book you mentioned above. Thanks a bunch. Frank R. Mayberry in Muskogee, Ok (Cherokee Indian Country)

Barbara, that is so nice to offer to do look ups. By any chance do you see a John and Sophia M(probably Major) Butcher listed in the book and for that matter any Butchers if there aren't many would be helpful. When and if you have time. Barbara, 1 - Point of Rocks, Frederick Co., MD was a statement I made regarding another "stringed issue" that has run concurrent with my own postings on Casper MIER/MYER, in other words, it had absolutely nothing to do with the burial question on Caspar, which is why I "P.S.(ed) it". 2 - I do my own lookups and research, thanks but no thanks, respectfully speaking. 3 - About the Stop sign.. It was some humor I added in. I do that sometimes. Anyone can look on a current map and find that Point of Rocks is in Frederick County. As a resident of the County, I can assure you that it is there, on the Potomac, has a railroad line running through it, and is very much in Frederick County.
Hi, I have looked at this thread for a while and I am not sure who is looking for Caspar's burial, is it Chrystie who looked up and saw the stop sign? I may have missed it at the beginning, but I don't think I have seen Names in Stone mentioned, as not in there or what. Or Scharf's History of Maryland which has lots of lists of people in cemeteries. I only have access to the 2 volumes with no index, a real pain, but I saw the lists. And I don't see a religion... I have my Patrick O'Neill (much later than Caspar, died 1855) buried at St John's Catholic Cemetery in Frederick...near the stop sign?...and in Names in Stone. Is anybody writing on this thread and Point of Rocks actually THERE and going to the library? I don't have his obit, only an email version of it. It exists. Anyone who would get it for costs+? I have had two people say they would so far and then not do it. I don't have him on a ship, so maybe you get a ship or a burial....not both. Barbara Ford Providence RI
I am reading William's 1910 History of Frederick County and on p. 321 he says: "Point of Rocks is a village at the eastern foot of Catoctin Mountain where that mountain ridge comes to the Potomac. The place was made famous by the litigation between the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company . . . in 1832 and for a year or more pending the litigation Point of Rocks was the western terminus of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad where freight was gathered from a wide expanse of territory for shipment to Baltimore. As may be imagined during that time it was an exceedingly lively village with an active trade. Just one mile east of it is Washington Junction where the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio joins the Metropolitan branch. It is an important place and has largely superseded the village. . . The original village was known as Trummelstown and was laid out on the main road from Washington to Hagarstown about a mile from the present village.
Listers, Last year when visiting an ancestral Frederick County home located Southwest of Middletown, the owner told a story of a Mr. Weiss (SP?) that was murdered in the home. He worked for the CIA and was a double agent for East Germany. This I believe happened in the 1980's. Is there anyone on the list that remembers this incident? 20/20 or some TV documentary show filmed the site. I would like to get the footage of that show if I can find a date or some information to help with my search.
