Dear Friends: If you live in the Frederick County area and have an interest in family history or genealogy, I know you will be pleased to learn about an upcoming three-day family history event called "Unlocking Your Past." An enthusiastic group of family history buffs has recruited a truly distinguished panel of thirteen regional authors, historians, educators, geneologists, curators and experienced family history researchers to participate in an three-day event which is open free to the public. There will be 13 presentations daily on each day of the event, there will also be several videos presentations, live demonstrations, numerous exhibits, and free light refreshments. The dates for the event are: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 6th, 7th and 8th; so please take a moment to visit our website at: www.home.earthlink.net/~unlocking-your-past Don't overlook the buttons for website pages 2, 3 and 4, they're way down at the bottom of the home page, and kinda easy to miss. If you would like to print any of the website pages, do not try to select or highlight any of the text. Just pull down the FILE tab, click on PRINT, and set your printer to make a fast black and white draft copy of the whole page. If you do this, the text will come out black on a white background like a normal page. If you would like more information, you may e-mail unlocking-your-past@earthlink.net and ask to have a copy of the full program e-mailed to you. The download consists of six TIFF image attachments totaling about 5 megabytes, so it'll take quite awhile if you don't have DSL or cable. You can also get a quick overview by calling our "Unlocking Your Past" event hotline: (717) 765-6847. Check it out, and make plans to attend today! Sincerely, Steve Whitney, event publicist

Dear Frederick County Friends: Sorry to send this twice but I forgot to put the subject on it. I am trying to find the parents of Sarah Bobst 1801-1882. She was not married at her parents home which seems odd. She was born in Pennsylvania in 1801 so her parents were probably in the 1800 census of Pennsylvania and possibly in the 1810 census of Pennsylvania. She was married in Frederick County in 1819 so her parents could have been in that vicinity by that date. The only other Bopst/Bobst families in Frederick County in 1820 are Daniel Bopst and John Bopst who were young parents with one child each. I would love to find the Family Bible described below. Please read the following and offer research suggestions: !MARRIAGE: 1819 From the War of 1812 Pension File; John J. Main declares that he is married and that his wife's name was Sarah Bopst, to who he was married at his fathers house, Frederick County on the 25 day of November 1819. GENERAL AFFIDAVIT; Frederick Co. Maryland in the matter of Pension claim of Sarah Mayne widow of John J. Mayne. On this 5th day of June A.D. 1880; personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid county, duly authorized to administer oaths, J. Philemon Creager [Attorney], aged 72 years, a resident of Frederick City in the county of Frederick, Maryland, certifies that he has this 14th day of June 1880 examined the family Bible of John J. Mayne, late of Frederick Co. Md. Published by Jesher Harding at No. 57 South Third St. Philadelphia, Pa. in the year 1851 and in the family record contained therein was recorded the following- John J. Mayne and Sarah Bopst were married on the 25th day of November 1819 by the Revd. Jonathan Helphenstine a minister of the German Reformed church and he further certifies that he believes the above record to be true and worthy of belief. I sure would love to find that Bible. Thanks Sydney for the lookup. I think Mary is Daniel's first wife as he is buried with her. Magdalena must be his second wife as she is listed with him in 1880 and the first child listed was born in 1873. Cindy
David, I did get the obit from the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot newspaper online. I wrote to the funeral home who was in charge of services and got the names of the next of kin. Now I need to find Christine B. or Anna White. Christine was listed as a daughter and Anna a grandaughter. There was an address for Anna in Brunswick, MD. I mailed a letter off to her today and will wait to see if she still lives at the address after nearly 10 years. Can anyone do a marriage record lookup for Frederick County Marriages? I am looking for Daniel Gladhill and Mary or Magdalena ? Thanks, Cindy H.
Hello list, I hope someone can help me find someone who lives in Frederick County. In the early 1940's my uncle James L. Jones of Richland Co., IL married a woman by the name of Lois LaVergne Crow. Uncle Jim went into the army and was killed in WWII when his plane was shot down over Germany. His wife Lois "LaVergne" Jones remarried a man by the last name of Berentsen. I have found that she may have died in 1993 in Suffolk, VA. I wrote to the funeral home that was in charge of arrangements and they gave me the names of her daughter and grandaughter. These are the individuals I am looking for. Can anyone help me find Christine B. White or Anna White? I have an address for Anna White in Brunswick, MD in 1993. I would dearly love to make contact with either Christine or her daughter Anna. Thanks in advance Pam Jones Waddell --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Hi Nick, Yes, I have a very large database of Main's. Since this is my maiden name it was the first surname I took on. Somewhere down the line I came across a gentleman by the name of Glenn Main in MD which was doing nothing but acquiring names and no research involved and finally got so "screwed" up that his work is not reliable. So, if you run across this gentleman in your travels, be ware. He even had the nerve to call my Mother to see if she was still alive. My work is not on the web because I tried to put my Main line on Roots, but I'm to dumb to do it. And then a lot of health problems have dumped on me and I've considered hanging up my genie hat. But that bug is hard to recover from. I'll get back in touch with you later. By the way, I think that Samuel Bowden is the correct one, which means he serviced his wife.
