    3. I forgot to indicate time period - it would be from earliest records to about 1830 ("my" Stouders were gone from Frederick Co. by about 1800). But it is interesting that there were some there in the early 1900s. These might have migrated from Lancaster Co. PA. 2. Molly.
    3. Hi Group, I was just going thru an 1851 Baltimore directory CD for a customer of mine, and came across a section that may be of interest to some on the list. There is a niced sized portion entitled "Colored householders in the city of Baltimore" I am taking this to include Afrikan and Indian.I see how hard it is to find non white ancestors by emails to the lists I am on and just wanted you all to know about this. The directory is Matchetts 1851 Baltimore directory. You may even be able to get this at your FHC or inter library loan...I do not know for sure.It runs from page 301-344.If your FHC or library does not have this, they may be able to order it for you.It just seemed to important not to mention as another resource for whoever has a need for this.Feel free to post this info to whatever list you think might benefit. I know this is the Frederick list, but am sure many are searching Baltimore as well... 3. I may have sent this twice, but don't think I got it out the first time. If it is a duplicate, please accept my apologies. Thanks Jeanne for the Bowers info, but that George Bowers is far too late (1939) for my George that I need in 1780-82. There may be some of the other Bowers if there are any early dates that could be related, but I don't know enough on them, in fact don't know that much on George either so am at a brick wall. I know that George was probably born about 1730 and died about 1782 and had a son Leonard born in 1760, but other than that have nothing on him or his family. I have from Leonard on down, but sure can't seem to get backwards. Thanks again for your help. Lee Ripperger

    3. Here's some info on Carroll County, Maryland. George Meredith Nuetzel Parkville, Maryland CARROLL COUNTY As the counties of Frederick and Baltimore continued to grow, it was hard for citizens to travel to the county seats of Frederick and Baltimore Town to conduct business. The roads were muddy when it rained and rutted when it was dry. Several attempts to create a new county failed, but finally in 1833, William C. Johnson of Frederick proposed a new county to be called Carroll County after Charles Carroll of Carrollton. The Maryland General Assembly passed a bill stating that citizens from parts of Baltimore and Frederick counties would vote on this proposal. If the majority from either county opposed the bill, it would not pass. After much arguing over illegal voting practices, a study was done to see if such a vote was constitutional. It was decided that an amendment would be written by an act of the legislature at one session and it would be passed in its next session. The act was presented to the General Assembly. Governor Thomas W. Veazey supported it and the act passed on March 25, 1836. On January 19, 1837, the state senate passed the measure and Carroll County was formed. This information is from "Our Maryland Counties Series" by Elaine Bunting and Patricia D'Amario Karen Starkey wrote: > Would someone please tell me where I should be looking for genealogical info > on a family from Mt.
