Helen, would you please check on any Stamm, Stam, Stem ect. when you have time. Thank you Phyllis
Allison, Sorry, not in this book. The problem with German surnames is that they can and will be found spelled many ways. An example: my ancestor Johannes Martin Wipff, stepped off the boat in 1749, Philadelphia signing his name, the English then translated to Wiss. Later it was anglicized to Whip/Whipp. When I need help with German surnames or the Language, I get on a Pennsylvania Dutch, or other Pennsylvania mailing list. There are many knowledgeable and kind folks on those list. Hello could you lookup Nicholas Frye. Thanks Marilyn Marlow
Thanks for replying.. I am looking for my ancestor Johann Sebastion Schuechen, name became early on Sebastion Shehan. He was in what is now Nelson Co. KY (then VA) by 1788 when thre were still some Indian raids. There is a Hessian soldier with that exact name so.. wondering.. The Ambrose family of Frederick Co. MD settled in the "Germantown" area near present day Bardstown, Nelson Co. KY in the same time frame as my Sebastion Shehan. However.. there is also in one of the PA Newspaper where in 1786 a Jacob Fisher, school teachers of Berks Co.PA is inquiring of the whereabouts of Johanne Sebastion Schuechen... and Jacob Duch...... They left Amsterdam on such and such a date came from etc.. great information if.. this is definitely my Sebastion. There is no question of the name of my ancestor.. Johann Sebastion Schuechen.. Enough. I don't know, personally, of anyone who has researched the Hessian soliders who were, first, prisoners-of-war in Frederick County, and then decided [either during or just after the Revolutionary War] to become citizens in the new United States of America. I believe that many of them finally lived in Bachman Valley, in the upper northeast part of old Frederick County. Today, that is in Carroll County, MD. Someone at the Carroll County Historical Society said that the names, at least, of some of them are listed in one of the Frederick County publications. My family lived near them but was not one of those families. I believe that there is a Lutheran Church in Bachman Valley that was founded or attended by the former soldiers. I think many married the daughters of families in the area or, perhaps, in some instances, made arrangements for their own families to come to the area.. It would be a fascinating bit of American history..good luck.

We're interested in contacting anyone doing research on the Staab/Staub family, originally from York/Adams Co., PA. My ancestor is Johan Adam Staab/Staub who was murdered in York Co. on 12 July 1763 near Brushtown. -- Genealogy without documentation is mythology!
If anyone has a copy of (or access to) the following book: FREDERICK COUNTY, MARYLAND, CHURCH AND CEMETERY RECORDS: Volume 3 (Zion Lutheran and Mt. Tabor, Middletown) - Patricia A. Fogle (1997), please let me know. I am looking for any WISSINGER's that may be listed in this book. Thanks Bob Wissinger Toledo, Ohio
My ancestor, Johann Ludwig WISSINGER and his wife Catherine were of the Protestant faith and in 1750, Johann and his friends built a crude log structure for their church in the Middletown area, Md.. This building was used by the Lutheran and Reformed congregations until 1783 when the group disbanded. In 1771, the Lutherans purchased an acre of land from Conrad CRONE and in 1773, they built a sexangular log structure for their church. This building was used until 1814 at which time they built a brick structure replacing it in 1859 with a larger brick structure, which is still standing, and in use today. This building was also used by the government as a lookout and hospital during the Civil War. I believe this church is the Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church of Middletown, Md. Can anyone clarify the history of these churches ? Also, in May of 1960, the Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church decided to remove a small cemetery from the rear of the church to make room for an elementary annex. About 100 graves were moved to a nearby larger cemetery. Does anyone know which cemetery these graves were moved to ? Does anyone know where a list of these 100 graves sites can be found or know more about this ? Thanks. Bob Wissinger
