I believe we have a connection! I am researching my husband's family and his grandfather, Stuart Benson Clark, Jr. had an old family Bible. In it was recorded marriages, births and deaths of the family. The Bible belonged to Jane Gaither Clark and Robert Breckenridge Clark, the son of Matthew Clark and Temperance Glenn Clark. I have been hitting brick walls as far as the Clark name goes, but I recently found someone who looks to be the parents of Matthew: Robert Clark(e) and Elizabeth Rigdon. This may or may not be accurate because I have no way of proving it, in fact I found it on Rootsweb. I have been curious about the "Breckenridge" name and where that comes from as well. By the way, Matthew had a brother named Stephen who was a year older. Maybe we can pool our resources and get this mystery solved! My husband, by the way, is also Matthew Clark, son of Stuart Benson Clark III, son of Stuart Benson Clark, Jr, son of Robert Stuart Clark, son of Robert Breckenridge Clark, son of Matthew Clark.
