Hi all- My name is Kate, and I have been working on my father's genealogy for almost a year. I discovered as of yesterday, that I have a German ancestor who immigrated in 1849, and landed in Baltimore, then eventually made his way to Philadelphia. His name was John Michael Maisch, and he was born in 1831 in Germany. I believe he was married in Baltimore, to a Charlotte Justine Kuhl, in 1859. I am unfamiliar with searching for marriage records in Baltimore, could someone point me in the right direction? Also, is there a good online database for German Immigration through Baltimore? And, should I be searching for him as Johann? I'm not sure if he was naturalized, I know his wife was, but I don't know if he was. I'm assuming he was because he took part in the Civil War. Thanks! There are websites online that have information on Civil War military and the pensioners...If you google you will find loads. Thru them you can search the files and see if your ancestor is there. One more piece of the puzzle might be found.
